Save The Date vs Facebook

Katrina, on April 9, 2012 at 7:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 27

What are your thoughts on saving the $400 I am about to spend on Save The Date cards vs posting it on our Facebook and sending them to our Website. I would like to just save that and put that money towards the open bar.

If everyone has access to FB then of course! You could do an e-card even. They'd probably be less likely to misplace it! Smiley smile

I think it just depends on if all of your guests have facebook. We weren't going to send STDs but because majority of our guests are OOT it was a little easier to send the STDs

    I did Postcards.

Honestly, I think FB is tacky for any formal event. If you really want to keep if online, there is evite and other online invitation services. You could just also email everyone. More people have email than facebook.

If you're STDs are running $400, how much are your invitations going to cost? Most people throw the STD and the invitation away after your wedding... how much will you pay for something that winds up in the trash?

$400 sounds like way too much to pay for STD's. I did magnets and didn't even spend $100 on them. I'd really try VP or look somewhere else.

I personally don't post anything on FB about my wedding.

Wanted to add -- you are having a Florida wedding during a possible Spring Break time (I know my almamater has Spring Break the last week of March), I would recommend some sort of STD.

I don't like FB for events more formal than a house party. Evite, Punchbowl, hell, most of my guests will have an email with a STD image embedded in it, all preferable to FB. If not, the 100 postcards from VP are also a great option.

But if you decide to go with FB, make sure you don't make it a public event/public picture or you'll have unwanted guests trying to go to your wedding.

I'm using VP for my save the dates as postcards too. They have lots of options and you can also upload your own design. If you need more than 100 STDs, you can do two orders of the free postcards, just a heads up

Also used VP for our save the dates, did postcards with little magnets as well- probably cost me all of $20, then of course teh shipping to send them.

The problem with facebook is it is hard to keep secret from those you aren't inviting, and not everyone is on it. Plus people will forget about it if you just say something once. At least a STD is on their fridge so they are reminded.

I would not use FB. I agree with the other ladies that it just comes across as tacky. Just a thought, but do you need STD's for all of your guest list? We are probably going to send them to the guests that are international. Everyone else we are telling, emailing, etc so they know when the date is, and that an invite will follow.

@ Jocelyn, I was looking at magnetstreet. I really liked their stuff. Waiting until we get e-pics done in May, then I am so going to order them. (My FH won't do e-pics with me because he has decided he is too fat, so after 6 months I told him beginning of May we are doing them, whether he likes it or not, so if he want's to look skinnier then he needs to lose the weight)

click, then use the menu at the top go to postcard

    STD Magnet on Free Postcards

    100 free postcard from vistaprint.com

    25 free magnets

    add white envelopes (thin)

    $12.01

and you can then put in a second order for 25 more free ones = $7.61

also use the link (above) and 50 more would cost $7 and S&H = $12.67

    3 orders = 100 postcards and 100 magnets, 100 envelopes = $32.29

That is like saying your Save the date Magnets are $0.32

and you are getting Free Postcards to put them on, and Free envelopes (thin).

Are you inviting 250 people or households? You will only need one per household so that should reduce your cost as well if you haven't factored that in. I was thinking I needed more than I actually did when I ordered STD's that is why I bring it up.

Wow..where in the world are you getting your STD's? You say 250 people...that does not mean 250 STD, you only need one per couple or families in the same household. I used Walgreens. I took our engagement pictures and added them to one of those picture card (the kind you see people use for holiday cards) and it came out beautifully. Cost me 35 dollars for 80 and i was able to make them and receive them in the same day.

As for Facebook. I use Facebook everyday, but do not pay attention to announcements and parties and such. I look at it once, usually don't reply and completely forget about it.

If you have an actually STD to hold they can put it up on their fridge and see it every day.

They are right and Hayley is queen. I was gonna say i think i spent like 11 bucks total, maybe less on 50 Magnet STDs... one per HOUSEHOLD. Its not MY money or wedding, so you do what you want, but $400. for STDs is bananas... i mean what will the invites cost? its PAPER! lol Hayley has amazing options and she always has the deals, i'd take her advice and save the money for something else you want!
