RSVP deadline? How did you determine yours?

Patricia , on August 16, 2011 at 12:35 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

Okay, it's my turn to start working on these things now, we plan to send out invites both electronic and mail by September 1st or before September 15th, so far I'm thinking of putting the deadline as October 31st to give me at least a week to to contact those slackers and hopefully not have to worry about it the last week of the wedding, what do you guys think? Is that too early, too late?

Our venue requires a head count a week prior to the wedding, but I just want to be ahead of the game somehow? let me know what you did, plan to do...etc.

Thanks in advance

We did exactly one month before our wedding: Sept 1 was the deadline. We sent them out in the middle of July. I think September might be a tad early, but given your wedding is near Christmas it might be a good idea.

Invites usually go out 6-8 weeks before a wedding, and only give 2-5 weeks to reply. Any longer then that and people wont do it and will lose them. I think if you send them out in September no one will get them back to you. If you have sent out Save The Dates then I wouldn't send my invites till at the earliest the first week in Oct. If the deadline is Oct 31 that still gives you over a month to get your invites back. Hope that helps :-)

My RSVPs are due October 5th due to my florist needing the final count 3 weeks before our wedding date to finalize linens, chair covers, and center pieces. I will be sending out the invites the week of the August 22nd or the following week at the LATEST.

Your wedding is the week before mine.

Since my venue needs a head count two weeks before the wedding date, I am sending my invites October 21 and my RSVP deadline is November 21. So that gives me a week and a half to call people who haven't responded.

    Hope this helps!

I did three weeks prior to the wedding. I think you can cut it a bit closer if you're doing a buffet, since you don't need everyone's meal preferences.

I haven't sent mine out but im sending them out 3 months before the wedding so end of april/beginning of may and asking them back by the end of June. I am doing that bc i know my guest and I know they will wait until the last minute. I don't think it's early plus why does it matter how early as long as it's not a year or 6 months before the weeding right? For my out of state guest i am sending theirs out probably end of march beginning of april so they can make their travel arrangement in time.

We picked one month as well. Our total has to be giving to the vendor 1 week before, so we figured if we give a month deadline we should be good with the late people

Our RSVP is three weeks before the big day...I think that is plenty of time.

So, your head count due Dec 2nd....

if your RSVP date is Nov 14, you will have 18 days to track down your responses.

That is plenty of time. If you put a date too early, people will not know if they can get the weekend off (I know my cousin's work weekends)

I had mine 13 days before the wedding, and I still had people calling me the Wednesday before the wedding changing their mind. Talk to your hall on when your FINAL final head count is due, mine was the Thurs before, and I lucked out and only paid for 2 no shows.

Thanks ladies, that helps a lot, I'm going to re-calculate

@Susy G., we didn't send out save the dates, but we emailed, called and text everyone our wedding website, right now everyone knows the date and have all the info, some have already called us to rsvp after their visit our site. I think I'll wait till october to send them out.

@Shannon, we're not doing a buffet, I forgot about that, we're doing a dual plate 'cause I didn't want to deal with meal preference etc.. so you're right I could do it a little closer but I've seen too many horror stories here about rsvp.

@Hayley, yes, I already spoke to them, they need it a week before the wedding, most of my guest don't work on sundays but I'll take that into account for the others. thanks

Give yourself more than a week! (Learn from the ladies here.) I'd say give yourself 10 days from when you need to give your caterer your final #s, at least!

I would still double check. My final head count was due the Friday (8 days out) before so they knew how much food to order... but I had until Thursday (2 days out) to change my final Final head count (what I would be charged for)

We have to turn numbers into our venue on September 10 so I made our deadline September 1 leaving me time to track down people
