Ridiculous wedding questions

Laura Nicole, on March 19, 2013 at 1:09 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 72

Okay… I can’t be the only person who has gotten a question from someone about my wedding that made me think, “WTF is wrong with you?”

Today, one of my coworkers asked me when my wedding was; I said October. His (completely serious) response: “Wow, you’re really dragging this out. Are you sure you want to marry him?”

Who says that?! Even if I wasn't… I certainly wouldn’t be discussing it with you!

For background, I got engaged last June, so will be engaged 16 months by the time we get married, which I don’t think is particularly excessive.

At first I was annoyed, but now I’m mostly just amused by it. So, I figured I’d open this up to other people and hopefully get some other funny stories: What is the most ridiculous/inappropriate thing someone has asked or said to you regarding your wedding?

Ok, so it was the contrary for me. I got engaged last December and I got married in February (yeap, I planned my wedding in less than 2 months!)... I've known him my whole life, he's my high school sweetheart, my best friend and we didn't have to wait...so I have somebody asked me "are you pregnant? is that the reason why you are getting married so soon?" TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE (by the way, I am not pregnant)

I think the most inappropriate has been why waste the money just do the court house, another person referred to FH as my future ex hubby... I'm getting sick of people trying to invite themselves!!!

Wow what an a$$! It's not dragging it out. I got engaged last April and the wedding is set for September. We had to save money and the venue we booked gets booked up like 2 years in advance so that guy is completely out of his element to say anything like that.

I've had several customers tell me "just get married at the courthouse you don't even know if this will be your only marriage, why waste so much money on it." We've been together for going on 9 years already and these customers are the ones who can't last through a marriage or have never been married.

Every time I've seen my FMIL since we set our date last Sept (not too often, she lives OOT) she asks if the wedding is still June 15th? I just think that is a really weird thing to ask.

I know i even said are you kidding me some people take 3 years to plan im planning in 9 months and i think were kind of rushing it! The deal before me and FH ever decided to get married was if we get married its for life. We dont want to ever get divorced we will just work through it so NO i dont ever plan on getting married again and NO im not getting married at the court house i feel like if we did we would be sneaking off and hurting everyones feelings

I have had people tell me not to "Waste" money on a wedding since we have kids and have been together 13 years. I love when people tell me what to do with MY money, if I wanna set it on fire or wipe my rear with it it's MINE to do what I want with. So what if we have kids so what if we have been together 13 years what I don't DESERVE a wedding because of all that. I usually tell them, ummm I own my house and both our cars outright, we bought a camp and our kids have everything they need so tell me again what I should do with MY money pfffttt after 13 years I think we are divorce free LOL

    "Am I invited?"

Naturally, this was asked by someone who had no business asking.

I called my mom when we got engaged and I said "Mom I've got some super exciting news for you" and she says "You're pregnant!" before I could even tell her I was engaged. I am, of course, not pregnant, and my exciting news was that I was ENGAGED. It sort of ruined the moment.

Oh, and in the background I could hear my uncle saying "she's pregnant that's why" over and over again. I'm sorry, but I haven't seen you in HOW many years, is it THAT hard to think that someone LOVES me? He might have been trying to be funny, but it was not.

I was also asked "you're going to invite me right?" by my best friends aunt who I happened to work with at one point, but who I hadn't spoken to in over a year.

Amy N beat me to it! That is the most awkward question when asked by someone you weren't planning to invite.

If ya have to come right out and ask, then you probably already know the answer. Why would someone deliberately put you on the spot like that? How rude!

People Re so odd! I had a coworker ask me how much our wedding is going to cost on multiple occasions. I told him it's rude to ask and I'm not sharing that kind of financial information as our parents are paying. He then went on to tell me how stupid I am for spend a lot of money on a wedding and it's so wasteful. He also said it must be nice to have parents who can afford to pay for things like that.

    Seriously, so awkward!

My husband and I got married in September 2012 with plans for getting married this September. We ended up getting married on Christmas eve (still having the wedding this September) and someone asked "Is she pregnant"? Some people sure have no shame. And NO Im not pregnant! Just in love!

Some people are so rude.. and honestly in todays world why do people assume a girl is pregnant when she decides to get married quick? Its not like you would be beat and shunned from a community if you werent married first AHHH get a grip people!!

My favorite is when a person tell you to just go to the court house then proceeds to ask for an invite.. No shame
