Maybe I have no sense of humor...but FH and I were watching an episode of 4 weddings and the part with the cake in face, my FH says "I can't wait to do that!" Excuse me, he says "it's tradition!" Really, this coming from the guy who wants nothing to do with traditions....could careless about a first...

Really, this coming from the guy who wants nothing to do with traditions....could careless about a first dance, didn't care if our bridal party was even on both sides, thinks the sand untiy ceremony is "lame!" So now he thinks we should follow some dumb a$$ cake in face "tradition! I told him if he does it I will be beyond pissed! Why should I spend money on having my makeup done so he can ruin it with cake??? Am I the only person who thinks this is a dumb tradition?

Anyone who smashes cake in someones face is a classless moron.

Had anyone smashed cake in my face, he would A) be speaking in a very high voice for a long time and B) Be divorced man in less than 24 hours.

@ Kathy R., That's pretty close to what I said to my FH as well! I was really pissed that he would even think it was ok!

I don't know what your wedding timeline looks like Glenn but the cutting of the cake typically occurs after dinner. The bouquet toss & garter toss is at the end.... My photographer will be taking a lot of pictures throughout the night up until we leave....

It's only fun if both the bride and groom want to do it. We are cutting and serving our cake right after dinner, so there will still be tons of pictures to be taken afterwards. I am blessed with a respectful FH and I thank my lucky stars Smiley smile

Why is the whole smashing cake part immature and anyone who does it a moron? i don't think the name calling for this "tradition" is necessary.

personally i am going to smash the f**k out of my fh face with the cake! i think it might actually be a full-on food fight (which i am TOTALLY excited for) with the entire bridal party Smiley smile but at the same time i don't have a problem with someone who doesn't want to do it. lastly i think it will make for a great picture for us to have cake in our face...

@JakitaP. personally I would rather eat my cake than wear it! If I wanted a "full on food fight" then I would spend less money on a nice cake and opt for cupcakes instead! Not only that, I would like to have my make up last for the rest of my pictures through-out the night! And I would really rather be enjoying my reception than spend 30 minutes or more in the bathroom, digging cake out of my nose and god knows where!

I agree with you. I already told him that if he does it I will be pissed and let everyone know. I am not having cake smashed in my face or taaking a chance of it getting on my dress. Not cool at all.

To each it's own definitely @future, but i don't understand how you can get pissed on the happiest day of your life? if your fh is like mine, he doesn't say much during this whole wedding planning, but the few suggestions he makes i make sure to note, because they are important to him.

maybe you can meet him half-way and do a little on the face (nose and/or chin and/or cheek) just to appease him?

I will be a widow on my wedding day if my husband did this. And he knows it. My honeymoon suite would be a jail cell where I would be staying for murder!

@ Jakita , Problem is, he wants a "full on smash in the face!" Not gonna fly! If he opts to do it, then thats all the sweets he will be getting that night!....lol!

No seriously. I have seen it done. I was a MOH at a good friends wedding and we spent a good part of 45mins in the bathroom washing it off her dress, out of her nose, her hair etc! Her makeup was ruined!

I do like to take note of having my FH's input since like most men when it comes to planning he could careless! In fact he had the best pic of song for first dance, my garter (which he is refusing to toss) is Jimmie Johnson (his all time fav. Nascar driver) and he is getting an awesome grooms cake, his favorite...jimmie johnson yet again!...which if he pushes it, he may be wearing once it's all said and done!....lol!

Fh and I will not being doing this at all!! I hate it- My first husband and I had agree not to do it- I told him I felt it was disrespectful and awful. In response to that- the DJ counted down to the "feeding" of the cake and on "2" he smashed it all over my face- not only did he not respect my wishes- he didn't even wait till 3 so I could be ready. I had cake up my nose- in my eyes- down my dress- in my hair- everywhere- i was mortified- and I hated him for embarrassing me like that. On a brighter note- once he got me- i got him pretty good as well and then on our first anniversary- when everyone was over to cut the top layer of the cake- it ended up all over his face instead ::evil laugh:: :-)

Also let me say- that if it's a little bit of a smash- it's not so bad- a little icing on your cheek and chin- shows you have a sense of humor- I can see that as being ok- but smashing like literally smashing the person you just vowed to love and take care of's face- no- def. not cool!

My FH knows better. I don't mind a cute little drop of icing on my nose, but anything more than that...the outcome will not be good for him.

To each their own I guess. I personally don't think it has anything to do with brains or class, because I've seen classless people skip it and MD's do it. I'm not telling FH but I'm gonna somehow manage to get a little frosting on his face. I'm personally not into the full on getting cake all over each other thing, but a little bit is okay in my book. We're both pranksters, and it's a big part of our relationship/who we are, why wouldn't we reflect that in our wedding?
