Re-use your dress after the wedding.........

This is the best idea I have ever seen . Using your wedding dress as a christmas tree skirt.

That would be one expensive tree skirt lol

I've seen that before, but no way would I ever cut up something I paid $1200 for.

That is a very cool idea! I'm thinking of getting a custom shadow box made, and pinning my dress inside and putting it on a wall of our home. I paid a heck of a lot of money for my dress and I want to be able to look at it whenever I want Smiley smile I got my inspiration from Pinterest!

I don't think my dress would look good as a tree skirt. It has a dusty rose floral print insert on the skirt.... not very christmas-y.

That and I can't even imagine cutting up my dress! Same as I can't imagine doing a TTD session after the wedding.

@ Christie - I love that shadow box, you'll have to let us know if you go that route and the cost involved....

You could also use your wedding dress around the bassinet!

I hope to either pass it down to my daughter or to use it for a christening outfit for my children. I didnt fit into my moms dress so i am using a piece of the lace from it to make my garter. Smiley smile

I like the shadow box idea!

I actually have 2 dresses hanging on the wall at my studio as decor. It's fun and everyone loves it.

Heres a picture of one, Ive moved the studio around and hung another I just dont have an updated picture yet. I did a redo of some areas recently.

I had the idea to make really pretty throw pillows. :-) I have a vintage style guest room that they would be perfect for.

The dress from my first wedding... I found it as I was packing up to leave ex husband, got out a pair of scissors and started to cut it up. But then realized the fabric was really pretty so I made curtians and pillows out of it for my new apt! hahaha

What do you mean cut it!?! I don't plan on ever taking it off Smiley smile What's not practical about grocery shopping in your wedding dress! I do love the bassinet idea, but I will keep mine and if my daughter wants to use it or parts of it then it will be her choice.

I am getting in Jan. my dress is in a box on the den shelf for when I'm ready for alterations and pressing (don't want it where FI might see it). My one from my first wedding 25 years ago is in a box in my garage. Have no clue what to do with it but really need to get rid of it.

I think you could use the dress as a tree skirt without cutting it. Just tuck the bodice down into the skirt, put the skirt over the tree strand before putting the tree in the stand.

Mom's dress was made for her. G'ma used left over fabric to make my christening gown and then dressed a doll as a bride for me.

I bought a vintage gown w/train and had it shortened to tea length. Friend made a fancy pillow for us with the remnants.

My grandmother dyed hers black after her wedding and continued to wear it until it didn't fit anymore. (Of course, she was married in the early twenties so her dress was short. (similar to the one below) I've thought about doing the same thing with mine, or maybe leaving it white, cutting it off and adding a bright colored belt or something and wearing it as a sundress to "dressier" affairs. It's so light and comfortable, I hate to only wear it once. (my dress below)

I would never dream of using mine as a tree skirt! I plan to have mine shortened and wear it again. That's the only way I could justify spending as much as I did!
