Ugh saw Facebook events for 2 jack and Jills on Facebook this morning. Why do people do this?? Is it just a Massachusetts thing or do you ladies see it in other regions as well?

Tiffany, you want your wedding day to "be about you" but everyone else can buy tickets to an event to help you pay for that wedding day - that's so nice of you! And a shower that is HOSTED by someone is not the same as a fundraiser to which you are SELLING tickets. Everyone invited to showers is invited to the wedding. They are not the same at all.

Once again, the people throwing these are blissfully unaware of their tackiness.

Haha cats and Emily.. That's not how it's seen around here at all! So you're saying I should let my friends throw me an unnecessary shower and then return all of the gifts I receive since I don't need them? Sounds like a waste of time Smiley smile

No, we're saying that if you don't want a shower, you kindly say that you don't want a shower and have a wedding.

You don't have a party to raise money for a wedding that the party attendees aren't invited to.

    It's disgusting.

It's tacky and rude. If you can't afford your wedding then have a smaller wedding. "We don't want to see you at our wedding because we don't actually care about you, but help us pay for a party you're not invited to!" Ugh. I feel like a party like that would be so embarrassing.

Haha how did I know that my view on jack n jills would end up to be an attack on my character as a person? I'm just saying to each their own. I've been to many jack n Jill's (because they're very popular where I'm from) and they're always a good time! And I can see why people have them. also, it's not me that would be throwing the jack n Jill either (as Emily said) my parents, bridesmaids and I had a conversation and agreed that it would be most fun to have everyone together to have a big party! Didn't know that would mean that I'm a selfish person and everything revolves around me!

Ah, the, "everyone does it where I come from" rationale. Whether it's tacky as shit or not.

You can tap dance around calling it a fundraiser all you want, but the bottom line is, people will be coming to a party with the purpose of raising money to pay for a wedding that you don't even want to invite many of them to.

I generally make it a goal of mine not to treat people in my life like crap so I'm really having a hard time relating to this.

I understand that you think it's tacky.. I probably would too if I had never experienced them and had such a great time at them. But shunning someone because they view something differently as you is ridiculous. It's like saying a wedding is a fundraiser because people give you money in an envelope. I don't see any harm in someone charging for a ticket to a party instead of registering for gifts for other people to buy for you. To each their own I guess. Have a nice Valentine's Day ladies! Hope you and your FH's have a great day and are able to spend it together!

The "new age"? The new age of what? Shameless money grubbing?

Oh, and I can post articles from random websites too:

I live in Massachusetts. When I hear Jack and Jill, it just means a co-rd shower. I've been to co-Ed showers but they still follow the traditional shower route. I've never heard of anyone selling tickets. Ew! Lol

Growing up in Ottawa they were unheard of. When I moved to the town I'm in now (near Niagara Falls, population 10000) there is one going on every weekend at least. I still don't understand why people chose to do it, I will not be, but in my community it is the norm. Closest thing we have to a bar in town is the Legion where they are all held.

Ontario calls it a "Stag and Doe". Tacky as hell. Major side eye.

I'm from Massachusetts and I've never heard of that! I understand having a shower where both men and women go to it .... but if it's a fundraiser where you pay for a ticket, kinda weird.
