Hi, I have lived in my fiancés parent's house (with him) for 5 years rent free...my parents are putting in $5000 and so is my fiancés parents. Do I need to include my fiancés mother in any of my planning? Do I need to discuss my plans with her before going ahead with them? She is very pushy...

I was just asking a question...I feel she wants to overstep...I didn't need to be called bratty. To answer the question, yes I will be living there after the wedding, but we have started giving them some money for rent...so I don't feel that I'm still living rent free...

I imagine this is how it was getting rent money. You still have had 5 years of saving. Please tell me you have a shit load of savings in the bank?

Lol some of us haven't had the luxury of living rent free ever. I think that your FMIL is being more than generous and wants to be a part of her son's wedding. It doesn't sound like she's overstepping any boundaries by wanting to go to a fitting or the food tasting. You have to take your in laws into consideration.

And yes, you are coming off as a brat and seriously ungrateful.

5 years of living rent free = down payment on a house.

When you post drivel on a public forum you may get slammed. Sorry no one warned you...?

She isn't overstepping. It's not like she's dictating your dress and flowers and writing your vows for you and forcing you to let her officiate and accepting only filet mignon and high-grade sushi for the plated dinner and demanding a cash bar with only top shelf liquor available. She wants to be involved. If you can't play nice with others, you're gonna have a bad time.

I have asked my FMIL to a lot of things. She is a tom boy so she doesnt really ever go but I always extend the invite. If my FH's family was helping pay... YES I would have their names on the invite and ask their opinions on vendors but they aren't and that is okay. Learn to be appreciative.

"She got to have her fun a few years ago when her daughter got married"

Seriously??? So she can't be excited for HER son to get married?!?

And congratulations on FINALLY contributing to HER household and paying rent!

You want to bitch about FMILs, go have a talk with JacKlyn! I'm sure you would appreciate your FMIL after talking to her about all the bullshit she has to deal with!

OP you're wrong on so many levels.

To the other ladies wondering about a Stag N Doe, Buck N doe, Jack and Jill.. Whatever you've heard it called... It isn't tacky in the area's that are common for it. It's not just the BP or bride and groom inviting people some place and asking for money. There are games they can play, prizes to be one (prizes such as TV's, iPads, tickets to concerts and sporting events) and they always have a bar. I've never known any couple that has used the money start their life off with it. The money goes towards wedding costs.. I am slightly defending them as I am one of those brides who very well knows what it is, as it's huge in my area. I don't know a single couple who gets married and doesn't have one. And yes, I will admit I am having one and I am pretty excited for it. You may think it's tacky or rude, but realize that a stag n doe to us is like a boot dance or money dance(I forget what it is called, there was a post about one) to whoever does that, but in turn at a Stag N Doe people can win prizes, play games, there's usually dinner or a buffet of some sort.

Yeah, you did need to be called bratty. It's obvious you have no respect for this woman even though she's done WAY more than contribute 5000.00 to your wedding.

    Just for shits and giggles....

    60 months x 500.00 rent (which is nothing) 30,000.00

    60 months x 120.00 cable 7200.00

    60 months x 150. utilities (low) 9000.00

    60 months x 30.00 water 1800.00

That's a nice wedding; you're into this woman for more than she'll ever ask you for.

Pam. My Fiances mom passed away a few years ago unexpectedly. I would give anything to have her here to come to tastings or fittings. I would love for her to be here to drive me crazy. You are being a brat. And that's me being nice. Take a step back and stop being so ungrateful.

I don't respect anyone who lives with their parents without extenuating circumstances (aka, a few months between jobs, etc etc) past the age of 18 for more than a year.

    I won't ever. It's embarrassing. Grow up.

    So,

    1. you've been living rent-free for 5 years ... but have started giving "some" money for rent

    2. you're getting (at least) $10,000 for your wedding? I would kill for that deal.

Yes, your MIL should be involved. (For some reason) she most likely sees you as a daughter. Do you work? Or are the parents paying for the whole thing? Annnd you're bitching about not getting enough gift money? Wow. Sounds like you're expecting others to finance the whole wedding.

So you have lived rent free for 5 years, your parents and your fiancé's parents are contributing big chunks of money to the wedding, AND you are having a Stag & Doe party (fundraiser)? So do YOU pay for ANYTHING in your life?
