Hi, I have lived in my fiancés parent's house (with him) for 5 years rent free...my parents are putting in $5000 and so is my fiancés parents. Do I need to include my fiancés mother in any of my planning? Do I need to discuss my plans with her before going ahead with them? She is very pushy...

Just to clear things up, a stag and doe isn't like a bachelor/bachelorette party. It's one big party that the bride and groom/bridal party throw almost like a fundraiser to make money to put towards the wedding.

With that being said, you are becoming more rude and bratty. Are you and your SO even contributing to the wedding? Your parents are inputting money, his parents are and your having a stag and doe...

This is just getting ridiculous the more and more you post. Interested to see if you survive the regulars tomorrow morning.

Omg. How have I never heard of a stag & doe? That's awful... is the wiki page correct??? Please tell me it's not.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stag_and_doe

"The event is usually organized by the bridal party, but in some circumstances may also be held by the bride and groom before they are married...the primary focus is to raise money for the engaged couple, so their new life together is not started in debt. The intent of a stag and doe party is specifically to make a profit. Often, people who may not be close enough to the engaged couple to warrant an invitation to the wedding or reception (especially in the case of a small wedding), will attend the stag and doe so as to be part of the overall wedding celebration."

What?!! There's so many things wrong with a stag & doe imo (but I'm not Canadian so what do I know), but 1) a party hosted by the bride and groom 2) with the intent of making a profit for the wedding and 3) guests who aren't invited to the wedding come to the stag/doe????

OP--no no no. I don't care if this is a "regional" thing. That's tacky.

As for your question: Absolutely include her in planning. She's not being pushy; she's just trying to be involved and part of a big day for her son. She's putting money towards the wedding as is your family so both sides get an equal say in decisions. You get final say, but they should have some influence and be allowed to participate if they want. She obviously likes you since you've been living with her for FIVE YEARS FOR FREE??? Are you going to keep living with them after the wedding? For how long?

Emaebe, they are popular and common only in certain regions and outside of those regions are seen as tacky and rude. I know that they have them in Winnipeg (I learned this from one of the WW users!) and probably a few other areas. It's like the dollar dance - it's fine if that's what your local culture is.

I think it is only fair to include her. She let you guys live there for 5 years, kind of sounds like a saint to me.

Ugh I thought this post was gone for good. Of course, now others will have a source of entertainment.

I'm personally offended by this because FMIL has offered to let me stay with her rent-free after I graduate until the wedding. And she is contributing $5000. She could tell me she wants me to ride down the aisle on a live Bengal tiger, and I wouldn't think she was overstepping her boundaries.

Thank you for resurrecting this. It is glorious.

Shit if I could live rent free, I'd let her wear a white dress, be escorted down the aisle with a man wearing gloves, have a cake with her face on it and probably an ice sculpture dedicated to her.

Just kidding.. but really, the least you could do is let her help you plan the damn wedding.

Your FMIL is your family. I'm including my FMIL in everything that my mother is included in. Also, since she has been such a large piece of your life for the past 5 years I would think that you would have enough decency to include her. This shouldn't even be a question.

Wow. Just wow. You sound like an ungrateful brat. Just because her daughter already got married, it doesn't mean she can't be involved in HER SON'S wedding too. You can have both your mother and FMIL involved.

Honestly considering the amount of money each family is putting towards the wedding both sides should have some say in the event, but adding rent free for five years is definitely a reason why she should have some say.

You should be thankful that she's given you so much, and allowed for you and FH to save for your future together.

My FMIL was upset that she wasn't invited the first time I went shopping and expects to be invited every time we do something wedding related. She also gets upset when we do anything with my parents and not her. The difference is she's not paying for anything and we don't live with her.

The bad news is that OP is giving me an insta-headache, and I still have 3 hours left at work.

The good news is that I'm happy (not at all surprised) that the WW ladies all agree on this. Your FMIL sounds like a saint. If your mom is not happy about FMIL being involved, that's a whole other issue but your FMIL is going to be your MIL. You can't exclude her.
