Postpone August Wedding?- Buffalo Bride

Melissa, on April 30, 2020 at 2:28 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 6

Hi everyone!

My wedding date is August 1st, 2020. I am so worried that I will have to postpone! I already postponed my shower to mid July. I am getting married in Buffalo, and COVID19 is pretty prevalent in our area currently. I put a date on hold for next summer, but I am really hoping to keep my date. It seems selfish to be so upset and worried about my wedding during these terrible times! I am just stuck and want to know what other brides are doing and planning!

Thanks in advance!!

    Hi, and welcome!

I'm so sorry you have to think about this. (It's not selfish, this is an important day/celebration to you and your FS, and your families. We all need happiness.)

Following what the region is doing, I'd try to hold out for just a little longer. NY/NJ/CT are working together, but things are pretty gnarly right now.

The best advice I can give is: Have a Plan B. Be flexible. Don't make any decisions until you *have* to.

It's truly hard to see what August is going to look like. You might be able to have a super-intimate wedding this year, and the big celebration next year.

    Hi Melissa,

I'm sorry you're having to think about postponing your wedding. I agree with the PP. This is great advice: Have a Plan B. Be flexible. Don't make any decisions until you *have* to.

The general consensus for August weddings is that you should continue to monitor the situation and try to make a decision by the end of May. Or, if you would feel relieved to reschedule for a later date, you should consider postponing sooner for peace of mind. Unfortunately, it's a waiting game right now. Luckily, you are not alone. Here are some other discussions with August brides:

Also, as a bonus, here's a month-old discussion with another Buffalo bride:

I'm hoping you can make a decision that eases your mind very soon. Thinking of you! Smiley heart

    Hi!!

Buffalo bride here. I (just today) rescheduled my 7/18 wedding for next May. I obviously didn’t want to, but am concerned that if I don’t reschedule, many people will be afraid to attend the wedding. My shower & bachelorette were already pushed back to late June, everything just felt so cramped. Last minute planning and details couldn’t get done, bridesmaid dresses that were supposed to be in by March still aren’t... Even though I was worried, I actually feel better about everything being rescheduled now. I would contact your vendors to see how to go about rescheduling. Have some dates in mind and when we know more (closer to May 15th) make a decision. I have a feeling reopening will be a slow process. Large gatherings may be banned for some time so be prepared to reschedule, & let’s hope you don’t have to!!

I say your lucky you got a new date for next year. I live in Buffalo, NY and my venue is making us wait 5 weeks prior to even potentially give us a new date for next year. Moving it to next year is the best thing to do for your loved ones and friends. Much more comforting. I’m at a loss with my venue and the stress it puts myself and my fiancé under.
