Buffalo Brides: postponing your date?

Jessie, on March 31, 2020 at 5:29 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 5
Hey Buffalo Brides! My date is June 12th and like everyone else, I'm freaking out. Have you postponed? When will you make the final decision?

We're getting married at Pearl Street at The Webb. If we reschedule now, we'll have to pay another deposit and will not get the original deposit back. There's also the worry of getting all the vendors booked for a 2nd day. Pretty sure we'll lose our photographer if we do reschedule, as his schedule does not match up with The Webb.

I'm so sorry you're having to consider this!

We have a discussion with links to support and advice just for this situation.

Is it possible to hold on a week or two before deciding? A lot of things might become clearer by mid-April...

That's what were hoping to do. We really wanted to make the final decision in like the beginning of May.

Your venue has in house catering, correct? I'm sure they're not open to serve sit down meals right now, so how can they guarantee that they will be reopen for dining by June 12th for your wedding reception? I would strong arm them on this point if I'm correct on this. I assume according to your contract they have to be able to provide you their dining services, and if they can't do that, they aren't fulfilling their end from a legal standpoint. For this reason, they should at least allow you to select a backup date *in case* you have to change the date free of charge, because they aren't open and ready for you. I'm obviously not sure what other details are involved in your case, but there are vendors out there taking advantage of the difficult times.

Hi! We’re getting married July 18,2020 at Pearl street also! Stephanie has been great with assuring she believes things will be ok. Honestly I would hold off until mid-end of April or even early May. From what they’re saying I believe in NY it will calm down in a few weeks and then you have all of May to settle and still be fine for June! I’m hopeful for you and all of us brides! Trying to stay positive but I think you will be ok!!

    Hi Jessie,

I'm sorry you're having to go through this stress before your wedding. If it helps, you aren't alone!

With that in mind, WeddingWire has created resources that may be helpful as you navigate the postponement process: Our COVID-19 Weddings Advice Guide. You'll find articles like this one: You’ve Decided to Postpone Your Wedding. Now What?

Does your venue have a firm date they're reopening? Everywhere is different, but I know many cities/states have shelter-at-home orders in place. From what I understand, some of those orders are being extended now, as hospitals are still anticipating the peak. In short, it seems to me that the restart date for events remains TBD. Is your venue saying something different?

If you do decide to postpone, here's some positive perspective: “My Wedding Was Postponed Due to Covid-19, but Now I Get a ‘Do-Over’”.

My fingers are crossed for a relatively quick resolution to the Coronavirus situation, so you can make a decision soon. Hang in there! Smiley heart
