As a plus sie bride, the entire experience of dress shopping has me completely fed up! I refuse to think any less of myself because I am "bigger" than a size 2! Which is the size of every dress that looks half decent in these stores! Why are the plus size dresses so incredibely ugly??? After an appointment at David's bridal, I left totally upset with the limited variety of "plus size" dresses that they had to offer. I saw plenty of gorgeous dresses that I would absolutely love to try on, but of course..none in my size. Being a size 20 is pretty normal these days, I would think. Half of America is overweight! Anyone agree?

Exactly! There are so many factors that determine human growth, from major things like genetics and hormone levels to smaller things like the kind of air you breathe and how much sun you get. Height and weight shouldn't determine a woman's beauty, intelligence or character. Whether you're plus size, medium size, or pocket size. =0)

OMG... Girl, I feel you. I'm a size 16. Try looking at the website for MaggieSottero. Her bridal gowns are awesome. But, they can be expensive. It depends on what you like. Her dresses are sold by vaious authorized locations in your area. Also, AllureBridals. The have a couple of nice ones too. But, I found that the Maggie dresses were more flattering for my voluptuous curves. You're gonna have to order fast though. Looks like your date is coming up soon. Good luck to you.

And...yeah...Davids Bridal has the worst service & attitudes for this type of business. I've decided to keep my distance.

Tom, I read you comment and quite honestly I am a bit offended. I am a bigger girl, yes I know I am unhealthy, but I am working on it. To type "It costs more and really doesn't look good" is really rude. Obviously we look good enough to our future husbands and spouses. At the end of each day we are still people with feelings. No, the world doesn't revolve around anyone, but we are paying for weddings just like the next couple and should be able to find a nice wedding dress or whatever else a bride and groom would like for their wedding.

I also agree with Carmen that no one should be teased for what they look like, its not as though others have to live that person's life. With that said, please do not judge others in a mean kind of way.

And i don't disagree with you at all. i am not trying to make that exact lesson that you draw from the post. i can remove the post if you like. i wanted to offered a different perspective that addresses the core issues, not trying to make fun of people. there are many posts in this thread that's placing blame on others.

I went to DB and what I hate is that wedding dresses aren't really true to size... I got a size 14 but I normally wear a size 8 in street clothes. it's so weird... i think it's due to my big hips or the huge undergarments they made me wear to try on the dress.. but it was really disheartening. I'm trying to lose weight but man... the wedding industry seems to knock you down, whether or not you're plus sized.

Definitely try Alfred Angelo, Mori Lee's Julietta line, and Demetrios at Macys!

If you're in range of Washington (like anywhere east of the Mississippi), you need to go to a new place in Virginia called CurvyGirls Bridal in Fairfax. My cousin is let's say over size 20, and she found a gorgeous La Sposa which is nice except the service was even better than the dress! All their dresses are 12 to 32 and they have a ton of them. The place is like a palace and they treat you like a princess and they really mean it. There's a couple that own it and when she left they said to her "welcome to the family" and you really felt like a part of it. It was the experience we're all writing about wishing we had. I'll try to get their website and post it.

Got a phone number for CurvyGirls Bridal, 1-855-287-8911 which is also listed as 1-855-CURVY-11 (cute!). They're at 3903-M Fair Ridge Drive in Fairfax, Virginia. I think the website is www.curvygirlsbridal.com but they just opened so it might not have a lot yet on it. Who cares? Just go there.
