Please explain Mens Warehouse to me

Ok so I called Mens Warehouse today to see if we need an appointment to try on tuxes.... Well they dont actually have tuxes for you to try on. In fact, the only tux they had there was on a mannequin. They offered to let him try on that one... if he'd fit into a 36in slim fit tux jacket.... Of course...

Well they dont actually have tuxes for you to try on.

In fact, the only tux they had there was on a mannequin. They offered to let him try on that one... if he'd fit into a 36in slim fit tux jacket....

Of course they had other options.... you can pay $20 to order a tux to try on..... but if you dont like it, you'll have to pay another $20 to order another one to try on....

Are you serious?!? So you want us to PAY to try something on, with NO guarantee we'll like it?!?! Why no just order online?

Anyone who understands this policy PLEASE explain this to me.

And anyone who knows where we can actually try on the tuxes, please let me know!

We also had a terrible experience at MW, and decided to order a custom suit for FH online instead, and just told the guys to get gray suits from wherever they wanted. Originally we wanted the men to match, but the bridesmaids aren't and after our MW experience we said eff it and went the way we did. Hopefully it looks ok in pics!

When we got our tuxs from them dh was able to try on a suit jacket. we only paid $129 pre tux which is what dh paid for his tuxs for his cousins wedding from a different place

I think it depends on the MW location and how big it is. Most of the mall locations I've seen are pretty small... couple sizes of jackets to try on, a mannequin with the full outfit, some color swatches. For prom the guys just looked through a booklet and picked everything from there.

Our wedding isn't super formal, but we've decided to go with suits instead of tuxes. Rentals just seem like a big pain. After a friend's wedding this summer we had to spend an hour matching pieces of tuxes with the garment bag they belonged in. The guys take off their tie/cumberbund/jacket at various points in the night and we found the pieces everywhere. Big PITA!

Good luck! Its amazing the difference in experiences...we had a great guy help us!

Like Ms. A, we purchased suits. They are pretty snazzy--we hit them up for a sale. The price is slightly higher than a rental, but not by much. I believe this weekend they are having a buy one get one free of anything in the store, if you would consider a suit! The guys really liked the idea and have a nice suit to keep...they aren't wearing a tux that a million dudes have already worn. Smiley winking

I think MW is franchised like DB, isn't it the same company?

IDK. We rented through MW and it was super easy for everybody. You can't actually try on the actual tux itself, but they did have the exact same jacket and pant cut from their suit line that H could try on. I don't think anybody had issues with fit, and we had 8 guys in that tux.

The only issue anybody had was with shoes - a couple of the guys complained they were a half size off, I think too small.

I'm sure we could have purchased suits at Jos A Banks or even Bachrach for similar cost but MW just seemed really easy since our guys were in different cities all over, and H really liked their grey tux option, so we just went with it. Also he's not one to comparison shop. It took him like 10 minutes to walk in, choose the tux, get measured, and walk out. That was about his attention span max for WR stuff. Smiley smile

    Kris,

Yes--they are part of David's. They are also partners with Twin Hill. (Totally random, I know, but they make our work clothes.) I have so much useless knowledge!

    We didn't use MW

The place we used had one type of jacket in all different sizes so they'd let the guy try them on to see which jacket fit best but for the most part they just took measurements and they seemed to know what they were doing. The ordered all the tuxes using the measurments and they came out fine. I wonder if it's like that at MW.

Courtney, is that the same group that owns Macy's? I feel like I saw the same ad poster in Macy's, DB, and MW. Odd.

Thank you So much tux rentals!

That answered a lot of our questions. I even passed off the computer to my FH to have him read it.

We just went in today. Got FH, my son and his son fitted. We will send the other two guys to the store with the group number so they can get fitted too. Basically, we picked out the look that we wanted. They measured all three of them. We put $40.00 down on FH's tux and $20.00 a piece on the other two so $80.00 total today and then pay the rest when we pick up. The tux rentals themselves are $149.00 a piece and that includes Jacket, pants, shirt, vest, tie, shoes, cufflinks, suspenders (if you want them) and shoes. They do have some sort of deal. If you rent 6 tuxes you get one free (I guess that would be the grooms tux). Or if you rent 5 tuxes you get a $450.00 voucher towards a purchase.

If you want to see exactly what your guy will look like in various styles of tuxedos, you'll have to go to a local tuxedo rental shop that specializes in tuxedos and carries its inventory locally. There you will experience the service and attention to detail that is ONLY available from an enterprise whose very existence depends upon your satisfaction. You'll also have the privilege of paying substantially LESS for your rental than you would at either of the national chains, where tuxedos are a sideline business. And finally, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that your money was spent in your own community, and perhaps may forestall the seemingly inevitable tidal wave of national chains supplanting local business and moving local money out of the communities they serve.

I haven't had issues with my local MW. But when we started looking, I went to one MW and was told that one down the street did tuxes. So maybe only select stores have tuxes to try in stock?? Just a thought.

Oh wow! FH and I walked into our MW (Buffalo, NY), no appointment needed. They did his measurements, had multiple styles of tux's, shirts, ties, vests etc for him to try on. Even gave him the shoes and socks to try with the tux. They were very accomidating, and offered alot of help and suggestions to us. We had a great experience there. Sorry your experience wasnt so great! Smiley sad

Maybe it depends on location. I was told here in St Louis, Missouri the same thing by MW. We took a GM with us just to see how it would look with colors and everything and they gave him a too little jacket, that he couldnt fit so it didnt help me with the vision at all and said they dont have any to try on. They explained to me that all the GMs in the bridal party will come in, get measured and have the tux ordered. They even suggested doing this up to 3 weeks before the wedding which was kind of pushing it for me. Anything could happen. He also kind of rushed us. I think because our wedding date is set for May and he knew that we wouldnt be ordering in at that time because it was way too early. I really dont know how Im going to go about this. I know they have the Ralph Lauren line that he wants and that we are going with. Cont.

Our Experience wasnt that great here. I wish they had another option for me. Most of our wedding party lives in different cities and states so, it makes it easier for them to go into a local MW. I will go again later and I will be going on a weekday for sure.

I despise Men's Warehouse. The girl (managers) we worked with was ok, but if I called with a question and she wasnt there the others sucked major ass.

I really didnt like that FH couldnt try something on bc I really dont think the tux he chose was the appropriate cut for his body type, but oh well.

Its one day and he wont be wearing the jacket long.

Blair, it IS only one day, but it's the most important one of your life-- way too important to settle for something you don't really want. I encourage you to explore other options in your area. Your wedding isn't until May, which is more than enough time to visit some real tux shops and try things on!

Yea..we bought suits at Macy's for less than it would have there.. and they were much better in quality and style. Tuxes are something else.. never really cared for them..

    so to sum up

Men's Warehouse for you, just in my opinion, waste of money. Bad investment. Not worth it.
