Please explain Mens Warehouse to me

Annie Adams, on August 31, 2012 at 9:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 42

Ok so I called Mens Warehouse today to see if we need an appointment to try on tuxes....

Well they dont actually have tuxes for you to try on.

In fact, the only tux they had there was on a mannequin. They offered to let him try on that one... if he'd fit into a 36in slim fit tux jacket....

Of course they had other options.... you can pay $20 to order a tux to try on..... but if you dont like it, you'll have to pay another $20 to order another one to try on....

Are you serious?!? So you want us to PAY to try something on, with NO guarantee we'll like it?!?! Why no just order online?

Anyone who understands this policy PLEASE explain this to me.

And anyone who knows where we can actually try on the tuxes, please let me know!

Like Comcast, AT&T, and BoFa, their policies are incomprehensible to a regular human mind.

We also had an awful experience at our local MW. We drove 10 miles down the road to another one, and it was great. They had PLENTY of tuxes, even every close to H's size, and we found what we were looking for.

Ya, I was really annoyed when he couldn't try anything on. They pulled some suits that had the same cut so we could get an idea of fit. We splurged and got the vera wang line and they guys all looked fabulous. They were all different shapes, so I was nervous. But it worked out.

I was told (by to MW locations) that they had NONE to try on. They both told me about the same policy.

I assumed it was the same for all of them... maybe I will call the rest tomorrow but.... so aggravated.

You are correct on how they work. Their styles are all pretty similar though (from tux to regular suit). My FH had a suit from men's warehouse so he knew he wanted flat front pants w/a 2-3 button jacket. Men are different from women. Their sizes are pretty standard (and dont have boobs and hips to consider). When my FH went in for his appointment, they measured him and had him try on the jacket style that he would be wearing. We went back a few weeks ago (we get married next weekend) and was resized. He goes in this Wednesday to pick up his suit. He will try the suit on and if it needs to be altered/tailored, they will do those alterations and he can pick the suit up the next day, otherwise he will pick it up that day. The pants can actually stretch to up to 3 sizes.

Well, I can't exactly speak from experience of MW because I went through Seno Formal Wear which offered me a great deal, but they are only located in Illinois, and a few stores in Indiana.

However, they did the same thing, FH couldn't try on any of the tuxes, but they'd put it on a mannequin to see how everything would look. Then they put him in a standard tux to measure him.

Everyone I know has gone through Seno though, and had great experiences, and their site has models in the tux, so I was okay with it.

I'm wondering if that has something to do with location. I am in VA and we had no problem with that.

Do you have a Jos A Banks nearby?

But I willl task other locations. Because I cant imagine that their locations can all work like this.

Wow. We went to a MW here in AZ and when DH and his GMs went in, they were measured, and were able to try on jackets and pants to be sure they hung correctly. Then they tried everything on when the orders came in. One GM's pants were too long, so they hemmed them right then. We had a great experience...I am so sorry you had a hard time Smiley sad that bites.

What?? I can walk into any Mens Wearhouse out here and try on any size tuxedo jacket/pants, etc. You can't RENT and walk out with one that day, but you can certainly try on the different styles. I can't believe that only applies to California..........

OK.... I think I went about this the wrong way....

I called them first.... maybe I should just walk in. Because there is NO WAY that anyone would honestly pay to have something sent to them that they probably would not like.

OK! The plan for Sunday is to go there and find out if they honestly have nothing for him to try on.

My FH and I are going through Mens Wearhouse as well. Ours wouldnt let us try them on either BUT they did have jackets from the line that we could try! I mean, pants are pants and probably arent going to matter, but the jacket is a bit more important to see. So, we tried on the VW jacket and liked the style.

So, see if you can atleast try on the jacket, they should have that available for the suit you are looking at Smiley smile

First we went to one in Potomac Yards in Alexandria. Then we went to one by Fair Oaks Mall, but I'm totally having a brain fart on the exact location. It's one of those large roads by the Fair Oaks mall that has a strip mall, and it has a Silver Diner across the street.

ETA: I would just go there. If that doesn't work, Jos A Banks does tuxes too.

Fair Oaks Mall is also the name of the road its on Mrs Smiley smile

I would try another Men's wearhouse, they do not carry all sizes, the bigger the location, the better chance you have, but the way that Mens Wearhouse operations is they get tuxes that are needed from various locations throughout the US....the $20 is just to guarantee that you will be able to get the tux that FH wants in the size and style he needs within 10 days of the wedding. They dress the mannequin to give you an idea of how Fh's tux will come together and look, though they may not have the exact jacket/pants he wants, they should have something similar for him to try on.

I went there to look at their tuxes and was appalled by the price....ended up going with a local business instead. Maybe you can look around your area for a different business....I was not at all pleased with MW.

My BIL was my husbands best man and they went together to find their wedding apparel and obviously their first choice was Mens Warehouse.

They weren't pleased. Anytime you mention wedding, the price on whatever you are getting goes up! They went in there and told the salesman what they were looking for. The salesman started pulling $700 suit coats off the rack. $700 for just the jacket, seriously. We were wedding on a budget, that wasn't going to work.

When my DH told the salesman that wasn't exactly what they were looking for, the salesman told them go somewhere else. My guys weren't happy with that.

Needless to say, they did check out another suit store down the street and they got very nice complete suits for $125 (for the pants and the suit coat). They were both very excited that they got something that looked awesome on them, fit them well, and was a great price.

I don't recommend anyone going to Mens Warehouse. I know my husband will never go back.

I was also confused that the men didn't need to try on the tuxes or suits. Just get the measurements. Sounds like a policy to me.

That is really weird. the one my FH went to, he show them the picture i printed off with all the details of the tux and then went and got it together in the store and had him try it on. and once we agreed on it. FH set up the bridal party under both are names and all the names of the guys that would be getting fitted. he only had to pay $20 for the down payment on HIS tux rental. it was very easy and he was in and out with no problems at all.

I went to MW also and HATED it! The vest, tie & cumberbuns sample thingy was disgustingly dirty. I couldn't tell what color I was looking at cuz everything was so dingy & grubby looking. It was a miserable experience also as the sales person was young enough to be my kid and didn't know a damn thing about formal wear. I don't profess to be an expert on Men's formal wear but I do know that when you are doing the formal of formals it's tails & white tie... the sales kid just couldn't comprehend that since it wasn't in his photo garanimal book he showed me.
