Paying cash for whole wedding?

Jillian, on February 21, 2017 at 9:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 133

Is anyone else paying for their wedding solely in cash? Not literally but no credit cards? We opened a joint checking account for wedding savings/payments. We previously paid all our credit cards off and refuse to pay credit for the wedding but it's so hard. We literally have to have all of our deposits saved up before we even meet with vendors we may love. I feel like there's such a risk in losing people for our date by waiting! Is anyone else doing this? Any tips to make it easier? Good news is we won't have any "wedding debt" at all after the fact. Also, we cannot use any prior savings for the wedding..only what we've saved since the engagement.

We're using cash/available funds and not putting anything on credit. We didn't want to start our married life in debt from throwing a party.

Jessica B--Omg that's what both our dads used to say as well! They've since passed. This is why it's not an option, we truly want to be able to afford our wedding. Do you find it difficult?

Only paying in cash here. Well, debit cards, but only from what we have set aside for the wedding. I refuse to start our marriage by going into debt for one day.

Cash/savings here too!! The only debt we have is our mortgage and student loans. We try to keep it that way!

It is so hard! We had saved up some money 2 other times prior and had to use it for unexpected expenses. Literally everything we owned broke in a months time. (Car broke down, basement flooded and our central air unit had to be replaced) So we were responsible and put our wedding plans on hold.

So far we have paid our vendors in full upfront.

I would like to think that the vast majority of us are doing this as financing a wedding is a horrible idea...

We're the same too! It helps that it's tax time so literally all of our taxes are going towards deposits and we're actually paying a little bit extra on a few vendors so we have less to worry about later

Strictly cash and savings. We don't want debt.

It made it a little easier on us that we had money saved up before we chose a date and started heavy planning. That way we had some money for the first few deposits. Now we are consistently putting money into our wedding savings, so it's easier.

Also a few of our vendors booked our date without a deposit that same day. We had like a week or so to put the deposit down which helped a lot! Just ask!

Yep... cash/savings only!!, as PP said, we don't want to start our married life with debts. We opened a joint account a couple of years ago to save for vacations and are using that now for anything wedding related

Erika F, ugh it always seems everything goes wrong at once!

Ok glad others are in the same boat! Friends and family who got married before me basically put the whole thing on credit and I shuddered at that fact.

We used our credit cards on sone stuff just for the purpose of cash back but we never paid for anything without already having that money in our accounts and we would pay off the credit card super quickly after. We just love cash back.

Odd man out. I am using my credit card HOWEVER I am turning around and paying that off right away with cash, but I am getting cash back on any purchases made on my CC which I am going to use towards our honeymoon. I would not us this method if I did not have the means to pay it off right away.

I am using a credit card for the sole purpose of the cash back/travel miles.

All the points I've racked up have paid almost entirely for our honeymoon airfare. Score!

I used the credit card on everything (racking up the miles), but I had the cash to pay it immediately so I never carried the balance.

Yup, FH and I aren't going to put anything wedding related on credit cards. The only debt we are going to start with is the house that we buy before we get married.

I just got the Chase Freedom Unlimited cc so I can earn 1.5% cash back. I put all expenses (wedding and otherwise) on that card (I no longer use my debit card), then I wipe out the balance.

My reception venue requires that the final balance be paid with a cashier's check so yes, that's gotta be paid in cash.

We have paid for everything in cash as well. We didn't want to carry over any debts or balances.

We are using a credit card to pay for things but we pay it off right away (it's easier to keep track of purchases and have an electronic log). We won't charge anything we don't have the cash for though.
