Overdone and over it?

What trends, elements, themes, decorations, etc., are you so tired of seeing at weddings? I keep seeing articles about wedding trends that need to "die" or themes that are overdone. So I want to hear what you all are totally over seeing at weddings. I haven't been to many weddings so I love to hear...

Oh. And that maroon/burgundy/wine color that pops up when you google "Fall wedding." I despise it, had to wear it and never want to see it again.

Mint green and bubblegum pink wedding colors!

Maybe it's just an odd coincidence? But 3 weddings I've been to in the past 10 years had these colors -first in 2007, second in 2011, third in 2016.

Tbh, I think it's more the combination of these colors I don't care for, not necessarily the individual colors themselves

@veeismeee I totally thought the same. Obviously we can't generalize, but it is kind of strange to see constant articles about how poor and minimalistic and non traditional millenials are yet our weddings seem to get bigger and more elaborate. That's when we all have to remember most of those articles are over-generalized and simply click bait!

I really can't stand the grooms in that blue suit with the pastel pink, or even pastel any color, tie!!! I hope that was a summer only thing.

Im not a fan of all the signs. Honestly the themes people choose don't bother me. I actually love when a couple incorporates their hobbies and interests like Satr Wars, Harry Potter, or even Disney. As long as the touches are subtle, like a disney themed table number and escort cards or a cute cake topper and it doesn't end up looking like a kids bday party. I dont think liking Disney and wanted to incorporate some elements of it into your wedding means your not 'grown up.' If its somethinf you and your SO love, go for it!!

Any time someone presents their wedding as having "lots of bling". I feel like the room always looks like rhinestones threw up on it.

Melissa, most things here are not people being offended by how others do their weddings. It's people being tired of seeing the same 5 things over and over at every wedding they see. Hence the idea that they are overdone.

Definitely agree with the rustic/burlap/lace thing! although our wedding is on a private residence with a barn for the reception. I always imagine myself getting married under a big willow tree and this venue had it! Owner thought I googled "rustic barn wedding" but it was more like, nah lady you got a nice ass tree and it's hella cheap. Haha

Anything rustic, or just mason jars in general. I don't get the appeal of mason jars unless you are canning something.

I don't go to THAT many weddings, so I'm not sure what's overdone, but I can say what I don't like.

I don't like fairy tale, princess type weddings. Like tiaras and pastels and sparkles and just...ew.

I don't like bridesmaid proposals or any kind of "squad". I bought my MOH a beer and asked her to be my MOH. And I don't have a squad of any kind, ha.

Cutesy poems are a no for me.

Otherwise I really don't care. The rustic thing doesn't bother me. If it's you, then go for it. I'm a horse person but not having a country or rustic wedding. No cowboy boots here! But I know other horsewomen who have done that and I think it's totally fine.

Now if you live downtown Chicago, have never touched a horse, and want to wear cowboy boots on your wedding day I may look at you sideways.

I'm doing blush and gold/rose gold. Smiley sad I didn't realize it was so over done until I went wedding dress shopping and my consultant said everyone's doing blush dresses. I'm basic I suppose lol. We're having a more 'elegant' wedding, not black tie, but pretty elegant because it's a once in a lifetime thing. I want everyone done up!Smiley smile

"I'm not a fan of stuffy elegant weddings. Just don't think they're fun."

We had a black tie wedding and guests are still talking - 4 plus years later - about how fabulous it was. Sometimes it's nice to be treated to 5 star dining and service.

I refuse to use mason jars or burlap. But I might maybbeee use the wood slabs for my evergreen look. I'm not a big fan of some of the cheesy traditions people are starting, like watering trees or tying knots during their ceremony.

Viewing my venue for the millionth time today, there was a couple setting up their decor for their wedding tomorrow, and their centerpieces were wine bottles with the labels still on (barefoot and riunite) with huge hideous fake bright pink, yellow, and green flowers in them. And fake plastic table cloths for the serving table. I was like oh honey noooo. Lmao

@miranda, you made me laugh at "watering trees." is this a thing?? are people now making everyone watch them water a tree??

The rustic thing was a little much for me, too. our venue is barn wood everywhere- walls, ceiling, floors. I don't want *extra* wooden decor in a room entirely made up of wood. It was hard to find decor that wasn't rusticy

also not a fan of signs/toppers/anything indicating that the groom is being forced into marriage, signage/attire sexualizing children, garter tosses, and fugly cakes. make the damn cake pretty.
