Overdone and over it?

JJWed2018, on August 31, 2017 at 5:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 268

What trends, elements, themes, decorations, etc., are you so tired of seeing at weddings? I keep seeing articles about wedding trends that need to "die" or themes that are overdone. So I want to hear what you all are totally over seeing at weddings. I haven't been to many weddings so I love to hear it from other people's perspectives. One thing I'm tired of seeing is burlap

Mason jars, wood slabs and "rustic" anything. I'm going for a very elegant atmosphere and it frustrates me to no end that so much decor has a rustic feel to it.

ETA: I think some people do it nicely but it's not for me and it's kind of overbearing when looking for inspo pics.

Burlap! I think the past 4 weddings have been burlap/rustic.

"A Thousand Years." Rustic decor in inappropriately elegant settings. Flower crowns on adults. Sneakers with wedding gowns. Bow ties and suspenders.

I say do whatever 'theme' you wish. But personally, I avoided burlap as it's been done for years. I can see the same thing happening with wine bottles & lanterns soon.

If you are afraid of being cookie cutter, just pick something that you like n you can still incorporate some of these other elements, too. I just wouldn't make it the main thing.

Books seem to be a nice touch.

Wedding parties in cowboy boots. You're not even a cowboy. Get the fuck out of here.

So much, but I have clients, so it's best that I suffer in silence, lol.

Well this backfired on me! Lol not really, but I have to admit I have a few of the things that were mentioned lmao. Our wedding will be more towards the rustic theme but not super rustic. I just wanted it to feel like us. And unfortunately, lanterns are us haha and I'm totally wearing the sparkly Kate spade sneakers under my dress! Haha but I love them! I couldn't find any flats I liked and I'm definitely not wearing heels. But my main focus is just a romantic feel with just a touch of rustic. Eucalyptus garland on the tables, lots of flowers, candles everywhere. And I promise, no burlap anywhere! Haha this is exactly why I asked. I know my "style" is overdone, but it wouldn't feel like us without some lanterns and a little lace here and there lol

I'm not sure if it's over done because it's a newer trend but I'm not a fan of those naked looking wedding cakes. I'm not a fan of eating thick frosting on my cake so at times I've had to take some off but it's the frosting that makes the cake look nice. Seems strange for it to be see through frosting where I can see the actual cake

The word "rustic" makes me cringe. Being from Kentucky, that is by far the most popular thing going. I also agree with @Jami, I know of at least 2 other brides that will have their wedding parties in cowboy boots, and (even in the horse capital of the world here) I can guarantee none of them have even rode a horse before. The burlap, mason jars...*eye roll* ....just not for me.

Those gigantic table centerpieces where you can't see the person sitting across from you and with the extra silverware that takes up space and you don't end up using
