Ladies, I am sooooooo upset. I don't know how I managed to scratch it, but u did. I scratched the solitaire diamond on my engagement ring. I only had it for a month. I can't believe I was this careless. I told my FI and he said don't worry about it, he will upgrade it, but I don't want an upgrade. I want this one. But the jeweler said they don't buff out the scratches, I can only get it steamed and she said if I went somewhere else, it would cost a lot and it's not worth it. Have any of you experienced this? I know it's a material item, but it's a symbol from my FI as well. Ugh!!!!!

Ok ladies, I'm back. I tried scrubing it with a toothbrush and soapy water, and to no avail. Requested an earlier appointment with Gem Labs for this Saturday, hopefully they can take me and possibly recommend a good jeweler that could possibly polish it out, if it is indeed a scratch. The warranty that I have with the jewelry company only covers the diamonds on the side, not the solitaire. Thanks @ Kirstin d. My FI said he couldn't see it either but I know I see it. Im not going to worry, I will just get a second opinion like you all suggested and take it from there. Thanks ladies

Don't stop wearing it, either! It took me forever to get used to my ring, and I can tell you I have whacked it so many times on so many different things that I have checked to make sure I didn't snap the setting off entirely. But eventually your body adjusts to it, and then you get to enjoy wearing it all the time, nonstop, and having those fun moments like when you're just heading upstairs for the night and the last light you're turning off catches in the stone and it glints and reminds you that you're engaged to an amazing guy. Greatest feeling! Don't miss out on it!

Why does the warranty cover only the side stones? Did you provide the center stone?

My ring sits high and I knock it on stuff constantly and it doesn't have any scratches. I would deff check on that.

That's definitely strange to me. I don't think it should have scratched so easily. Hopefully a second opinion will bring better news! Good luck.

Wait, the warranty only covers the side stones that are flush with the band? That is beyond odd, and I don't know much about jewelry. I would take it to another store and have the stone tested to see if its a diamond or CZ they presented as a diamond. This whole situation reeks....

Another wtf poster here.... My grandfather was a jeweler. I grew up with this stuff, he even had his own set up to make custom pieces from his work shed. I don't want to alarm you, but first reaction is to say it's not real- A) That's why it scratched so easily and B) that's why only the side diamonds are covered. A lot of companies now are trying to cheap out or make it more affordable, by combining both. The side diamonds are smaller, therefore cheaper. But diamonds nonetheless, so they're gonna cover those babies... The center stone maybe not so much :\ Sorry... I hope you get this all figured out.

Ok ladies, so here is an update. I went to another jeweler and they looked at it through a loupe I think it's called and they said its a feather/ inclusion. They showed me how to use it and I was able to see it through the magnifying glass loupe thing . They also tested with a small device with a point. It went to 10 which was diamond. I know that is not a 100% sure fire way to verify, but it does put me somewhat at ease. I plan on going to a certified appraiser GIA tomorrow to get an accurate report and type of clarity, etc. Thanks for your feedback and advice though ladies.

Why did the jeweler warranty the side stones, but not the center stone? Where they afraid the feather/inclusion could cause the stone to crack?

I would be concerned about the quality of the ring if a simple chore damaged it. Get it appraised asap

Are you SURE you scratched it?

I thought that I had done that to my ring, but I checked the documentation on the diamond, and it was a pre-noted flaw.

Was the flaw pre noted? Its pretty hard to ruin a diamond.

I did the same to my ring last month. It definitely has some sort of scratch that wasn't there before.. i think i hit it super hard and it cracked a little on the inside as it doesn't feel like a scratch on the outside.

My center stone is a 4th gen diamond- i definitely feel your pain.

Well I'm not sure if I did it or if was already there to be honest with you. I didn't see it when I first got it. When I first got it, it was nice and sparkly. Now when I really started examining and looking really closely and squinting I could see it. The only reason why I even started examining it was because I know I had been rough with it while cleaning and stuff. I also don't know why the jeweler only covers the side diamonds, that is how there care plan works. According to the paperwork it says it only cover the replacement of the side diamonds. Not the solitaire. The inclusion could have honestly been there the whole time and I didn't notice it, because I wasn't looking. It's only been a month you know, so with the shine and sparkle and excitement I could have missed it. It's not huge, it's just something I didn't see originally and I thought I caused. I'm not sure and neither is my FI he doesn't want me to worry over it, and I'm not. I'm gonna get it appraised and let it be that. I don't want to replace it either way, because it was something he gave me and put thought and effort into. If push comes to shove and it has to be replaced later down the line, then we will do that. But for now, I'm keeping it. I love it still, for what it symbolizes and means to me.

An inclusion from my knowledge isn't usually something that you did to it heather would probably know better.

I'm sorry to have to say this. I'm a guy, and I have a half carat diamond ring on my right hand and a steel engagement ring on my left. I am a COMPULSIVE hand washer, it's actually a problem. Knowing damn well my diamond is real, as I have all the paperwork and microscopic images and all that crap, I wash my hands vigorously, seriously rubbing that diamond hard and often with my steel ring. Now my steel ring and the yellow gold of my diamond ring are scratched to hell, which is fine since I'm a guy, but there is not one single speck of even microscopic damage to my diamond. On top of all that hand washing, I work a lot with my hands and bang that diamond all the time, and...nothing, no damage. So what I hate to tell the original poster and the girl who's friend scratched her diamond with a can lid is this. You poor ladies got ripped off and paid diamond prices for cubic zirconium. Go to a jeweler who has nothing to gain or lose by lying to you and have those "diamonds" checked and appraised immediately. When you find out they're not real diamonds, take the evidence you wisely asked for proving that, straight to a lawyer, not the original jeweler, and sue the ever living shit out of those pricks for selling counterfeit items and false advertising. Do NOT give the original jeweler a heads up by going in there and giving them a piece of your mind or trying to reason your money back out of them. They're low lifes who will do everything in their power to cover their own asses before doing ANYTHING to make things right. Good luck and sorry you ladies got ripped off.

Ok im super late but get insurance. I go thru jewelers mutual and it covers everything, lost, stolen, damaged etc you can get coverage for the total cost of your e ring. Mine cost 100/yr for 6500 in coverage because i didnt feel the jewelers warranty was enough. Good luck
