not Catholic, but communion in a wedding ceremony? Where does this fit in?

Sarah, on May 1, 2011 at 7:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

So my mom just said that she wants the two of us to add communion into our ceremony to bring more of God into the day. I am definitely ok with this (I probably should have thought of it myself), but it is a garden wedding--not a church. For those of you who have done this, where in the ceremony does it fit? After the vows are completed or as part of them? I guess we will have to have a table set up somewhere or maybe the unity candle table can double? Sigh... I wasn't expecting another rearrangement less than 6 weeks before the day.

You could always check with your officiant! I don't think it's something that has a designated place. I could be wrong though! Lol!

I am Catholic. In a Nuptial Mass, the Eucharist(also known as Holy Communion) comes when it usually would in a regular Mass, during the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Are you having a bible readings? Perhaps it can go after that.

My mother is Baptist/Lutheran mix, so I have been to communion at a Non-Catholic service. Are you going to have to provide the bread cubes and grape juice for all of the guests? How does this work? I am curious.

    Good luck figuring it out?

That's just it Carole. I have no CLUE! I have never seen communion in a wedding before and we aren't catholic. My mom was saying just the two of us, not all the guests. I was just reading and in one place it mentioned communion right after we are pronounced man and wife as our first act as a married couple? Thanks for the good luck wishes. I am at a bit of a loss for this one lol.

I'm not catholic either and we're doing communion in our ceremony. I've seen this done at a few of my friends weddings too. Ours is an outdoor wedding, not in a church as well. We'll be taking communion right after the vows are said and right before the ring portion of the ceremony. There will be a song playing too while we're taking communion. I think having a song playing makes the transition between the two a little bit better. Hope that helps! Smiley smile

I've seen it in Christian/Protestant weddings and it was directly after the vows. A first act as husband and wife. But they were "pronounced" after the communion. I don't think there is a correct time or place.

My husband and I had communion at our ceremony (even though we eloped!) and we did it after our vows and ring ceremony. After the communion our pastor prayed for/over us and then pronounced us husband and wife.
