Necessary or Not: Videography?

Where do you stand on wedding videography? Necessary or not?

Oh that sounds like a cute idea, KiddieHeart! You could use it as a sort of guest book!

Is it necessary for you for any specific reason, Erin, or just because you want a wedding video?

Interesting. Are you still having a photographer, Andrea, or just a videographer?

I really want them to capture our first dance. FH and I are putting a lot of work in and I would love to see it professionally captured.

But more than the first dance, I want the videographer to capture what FH and I miss. Photographs are great (and he's going to get some stellar shots) but I want the video experience as well.

We can show our future kids and we are the type of people that watch videos over and over so this is a good investment.

This is a must for us, and it will be getting more of our budget than some other things as well. The company we are hoping to go with is amazing, their current videos of weddings they have done make me cry. Having our day, speeches, and special moments captured on film is important. A lot of the time you hear your wedding will go by so fast and you miss a lot, hopefully we will have a gorgeous video to watch when we please, even if it happens to be once every 5 years.

Not necessary. If you can not remember the day got married to your other have then there something wrong and pics tell the story very well

Not necessary at all. However, FH won this battle. He thinks it will be a great thing to watch on anniversaries and for our potential children. I don't like being on camera whatsoever, but I will make the best of it!

Well going back to my photograph comment on engagement photos. We have a lot of family and friends with professional grade videos. We honestly think we’re going to have onenof our friends sit behind one of the cameras to record.

I hadn't thought much about this until I saw a certain WeddingWire someone's video and now it's a must have! It'll be nice to be able to look back and see what it was like, since I'm sure we'll be running around and greeting everyone!

Extra. Especially in the age of technology we live in. BUT I would say it's high on the totem pole of extras.

For us we are going to use a camera we already own to record the ceremony and reception. However, we will not have a big production made put of it. We would much rather see the wedding replayed than see snippets of it.

Not necessary. Honestly I don't think I would watch the video more than once so to me it is a waste of money for such a short video of the ceremony

Aw, that is so sweet, Jen! I hope that your wedding video makes you feel just like you will on your wedding day! Smiley smile Are you hiring a different company to take your photos as well or are you getting a two-fer?

I thought originally I did not want a videographer now I am obsessed with watching wedding videos on YouTube. Thankfully I know a couple that works in the video industry full-time that would like to try out wedding videography. I told them I did not have a budget for them but they are more than welcome to video my wedding for their portfolio and also get some really good food to eat for dinner.

We will go with a different photographer and will likely be spending less on photography than videography (while still ensuring we have decent pictures)

I dont know whether or not to get a videographer! I found a fairly cheap couple I like to book, but I'm just not surr a 6 minute highlight video is enough. Any packages I find with full dvds of the wedding are WELL out of my budget. My budget is also pretty tight but I want the wedding video so bad. I have terrible long term memory. In 3 years, I wont remember any of my wedding. I want to be able to see it.

I wish we could afford one! Not a necessity but definitely a WANT! I may just have my big brother put his camera on a tripod to at least record the ceremony as that's really all I care about lol

While I do have room in the budget for this, I simply do not want it due to looking at the cost benefit. How much will this cost? $2,000+? Will I even watch it enough over my lifetime to feel I paid for it and got my money worth? Will pictures simply not be enough? The videographer will be right next to the photographer all night... spend a little more for a photographer and get what you want there. I feel the video is one of many over-the-top current wedding fads, like asking your wedding party to be your wedding party with extravagant gifts (leaving myself feeling bad that I'm only asking my girls to be in my wedding with $20 gifts when I see other brides buying their girls $100+ earrings).

Any friends or family members that have gotten them done normally share them online, and yes I did watch each one time, but it's not like I saw anything new - I saw everything that day and I already saw the 500 pictures you shared on Facebook (another pet peeve).

So when thinking about do you need it, really think if YOU need it because honestly no one else cares. It's 100% for you.
