Necessary or Not: Welcome Bags?

Maggie, on February 19, 2019 at 11:05 AM Posted in Planning 0 91

It’s always nice to give your out-of-town guests some wedding goodies and local information, but it also adds another item to your budget and to-do list! How are those extras to your guests’ experience? Are welcome bags an option you’re skipping out on?

Not necessary IMO. We will be giving our wedding party gifts at the RD though!

Not necessary, and not something I even considered doing. Bride on a budget here!

    Not necessary. Just wasting money.

Not necessary. Most of our guest are from in town or not far out of town. For the few that are from out of town, they will probably stay with family that are in town.

Not necessary but I like the idea so we'll be dropping off the bags to the hotels to give out.

Welcome bags arent a necessity. But it's a nice gesture.

Totally not necessary - especially when your hotel wants to charge you an extra $5-10 PER BAG to give them to the guests. I was not going to buy all the supplies, make the bags and THEN shell out another $400 just to have the hotel hand them to our guests. No thank you.

Unnecessary for my situation. All the guests except two live within the same state, it won’t be some tourist attraction for them.

Me either.. wasted money to me. What if they all don't get used/taken, then you're left with extra of everything..

Oof, that is a heavy price tag for trying to be nice and making welcome bags, Melissa.

Not necessary. It's a very nice gesture, but it's difficult to account for everyone's allergies and sensitivities and style unless you only have a very small group you're putting together bags for. I saved on these and instead I put my money towards the reception to host my guests there!

Not necessary but I'm considering putting together something in terms of a welcome bag since all of our guests are out of state.

Definitely not necessary. I suppose if you have a very large budget to work with, they're a nice idea, but definitely not even a thought for us budget brides!

Where would you put them, Alyssa? Would you have someone place them in their hotel rooms or are you having some sort of welcome get together that you could hand them out at?

If we do them I'd have them given to the guests at check in.

I don't think they are necessary but we'll be doing very simple ones. No crazy gifts or personalized bags. We'll be working with the resort to put them in people's rooms. Each cabin sleeps 2-8 people so we might just do something for each cabin and not necessarily each person. Ours is a destination wedding so I think having some sort of schedule and snacks is important in that situation. I know I always appreciated it at weddings that had them!

Not necessary for us and our guests. We do not have any out of town guests invited to the wedding so it would be somewhat of a waste.
