My Parents aren't giving me ANYTHING for my Wedding!!!

And that's okay because I'm a grown woman and I'm getting married, meaning I need to learn to financially support myself and my desires and not depend on mommy and daddy. This is real life, it isn't fair. Happy Easter!

Everyone has said what they think, no reason to pick one person out the whole discussion. It does not help when Analy gave you good advice and you point her out the group.

Um the ladies on this board are all absolutely wonderful. They give useful and honest advice. And then when people get honest advice they get offended and everything. Either you can take it or complain about it.

That being said I was fortunate that parents gave me 5000 towards different things. My mom paid for the dress, limo, and then gave me the rest for a gift. It was nice and I appreciated it. But I never expected it. They did do it for my sister but I never expected it for mine because things change and finances change. My DH and I paid for pretty much our whole wedding which made me happy because it gave us the ability to do what we wanted without people feeling like they had the right to put their two sense in.

When did I say any of you were a bunch of idiots? In my opinion none of you are making yourselves look good right now attacking the new girl. I'm here to plan a wedding just like most of you are.

In any case I have taken the advice to heart, I'm only singling out the people who have been rude and not supportive. How can someone say to me that I'm not going to fit in or get sympathy constructive advice?

Damn...Analy, I have to put on my big girl pants? What's up with that? I was kind of hoping to wear my Wonder Woman training pants today. ; ). They are a little thicker you know. We old f..rts tend to laugh a little too hard and well...you know the rest.

Jill....Just lighten up...noone likes a party pooper. And frankly, you have been shatting all over the darn forums. Everyone is telling you how to do it. Noone wants to be mean.

My parents are paying for everything. And just like another girl's mother on here, its because my father says "it's his duty". I 100% disagree w/that comment. Its not his duty. I want nothing more from them then for them to be at my wedding and support me (not financially). But they chose to pay. Had they not, and I'm an only child, I still wouldn't be upset. I personally rather they spend their money on something that benefits them, a vacation, etc... We are actually saving up as much as we can so that we can pay them back 1/2 if not more by the end of the year.

    Love you Carole

Sorry but I'm going to go with Troll. No one can be so dense as to start off on a forum with not 1, but 2 "poor me!" posts. This is for advice, constructive critcism and the occasional vent. Get to know your audience. Just like Mrs. Williams and her unlimited budget.

Miss Me, be a hostile b*tch all you want, it's hilarious! My office mates are going to start asking what the heck is so funny around here today if I don't stop finding your name/comments in these posts!

Me and the FH are saving as much as we can and even pushed our wedding back a little longer to ensure we are able to pay for it ourselves. If our parents want to help, that's great and will be greatly appreciated, it is in no way expected. We are both old enough and responsible enough to know that it is one day, one party and not the rest of ours lives that we are working to build together. When I have told friends or family this, I tend to get a blank stare. Why is it ok to be 30 years old and expect your parents to pay for your entire wedding?

My FW's parents are giving me some money and we are grateful for it, but it's less than half of our overall budget. My parents keep trying to give me more money to the budget but I keep refusing, I don't need either of them to pay for anything, but I'm very grateful that we are getting something.

My parents are actually paying for my wedding - well most of it anyway. But none of it is because I asked for it. FH and I could afford a great wedding, but this is something that my parents insist on doing. We have discussions about money and if there are things they they don't want to pay for but we want, I don't b*tch at her about it, FH and I just pay for it ourselves. Seems to be working fine for us. I feel blessed that they want to do this for us.

Ok,I'm gonna ignore the fact that this has anything to do with another post and just say that I think it's nice if the 'parents' are wanting to contribute-but it should never be expected.

My hubby and I anticipated paying for EVERYTHING ourselves and we are on our own with 3 (going on 4) young children.

I realized that a huge, higly expensive event was out of the question and honestly, that's not what I wanted anyway.

I prioritized based on the things I just 'had' to have and it all worked out perfectly!

My parents DID end up chipping in on the church-BUT it was because they had done the same thing with my brothers wedding,so it was more of a wedding present.

I never once expected them to help financially-I wanted input and their presence at my wedding.

'Tradition' can leave some new brides thrown off a bit if they aren't as independent or if the 'discussion' never came up.

I liked using our own money, that way I did what I wanted and not what others wanted.......
