My bridesmaids suck.

They were originally really excited and happy to be a part of the day, but it seems the further we get in planning the less excited they are. I don't know how to get them in gear and its really frustrating. I even had a few fight me on certain decisions and choices I was making for the wedding. I am not asking much of them at all. I am buying their outfits and paying for makeup, I don't see the big deal.

I think there is a difference between having your bridesmaids there to support you on your big day and having your bridesmaids be the opeing act of your three ring circus....

Before I finish reading all the comments I'll give you the benefit of the doubt after how your last thread ended:

I think the new dress is really nice. What exactly are they fighting you on? And is it all of them or just a few?

First off - I missed the whole first post - but the new dresses are very nice, something I would wear out to a fancy schmancy party.

But anyways - is it possible they are just overwhelmed by the amount you are asking them?

I know my BP is no where near as excited as I am but I also had very reasonable and low expectations of them from the start (we live on opposite coasts...).

I also make sure to check in with them at least once or twice a week to see how their own lives are and not mention the wedding at all.

I only talk weddings when I have something really important to tell them.

People aren't judging what your decisions were with costumes. They are still mad you aren't taking your wedding seriously and said it wouldn't last 15 years

    Mostly just two of them.

They think the dress is unflattering. They are both heavier and don't like how the fabric shows their waists.

But I cant really help that. I didn't know what they would look like, I just got their sizes and bought them. We don't have much time and I needed to get them ordered. I just started planning at the beginning of the month.

They are also mad about wearing darker make up. That's kind of what executes the theme here so its an integral part of the look. Its one day. I would wear a lot of stuff for them for just one day.

Hi Costume Bride. It wasn't your past choices that the girls were judging. It was the fact of how lightly you're taking the whole concept of marriage. And it came across as you were just putting on "an event", not honoring the idea of marriage itself.

That's what some of us took offense too. It didn't really have too much to do with what you're wearing.

I'm not jumping on the "I'm judging you" thing since I've been MIA and missed a few posts lately... But I have to say that my philosophy is to expect nothing of my bms... That way, if and when they do stuff it's all awesome. They have busy lives, and no one is going to love my wedding as much as me. I've just accepted it.

It sounds like you have changed your mind about your wedding a lot in a short time frame. That tires everyone out on it very quickly and makes it hard for people to care, whether on these forums or in real life. Once you start showing real progress and stop changing your mind, people will come around. But you can't expect your friends to want to constantly talk about your wedding and be focused on it. Doesn't happen.

    Sweetie, this is your quote:

For pictures down the road in 15 years or so, we don't know that we will even be together that long from now. I mean, 15 years is a long time and a marriage that long sounds a bit antiquated in todays modern society. So if we end up together that long, we will most likely do another wedding to mark it cause that is crazy.

If I were a BM and my friend had that attitute, I would drop out of the wedding. I probably wouldnt even attend. I think you are lucky to even have BM's at this point.

Are you willing to negotiate on the makeup if they agree to wear the dress? Maybe they'll be happier if you're willing to compromise.

They may just need to get over the dress if you've already purchased them and can't return. Otherwise I'd suggest letting the other two pick something similar that might flatter their shape better.

Whoa not to be mean but on bigger women I wouldn't put those dresses on them. They hug the figure Wayyy too much and the material looks like it wouldn't hide anything. They are beautiful dresses but I think maybe it was a poor choice for a bigger woman

Oh and I wouldn't waste money on a marriage that won't last. A next more serious level is moving in together... Marriage is death til us part. Not until one of us get bored.

I take it that you aren't planning to be married very long? If you have voiced this to anyone other than us than that's a quick way for anyone to not take this wedding serious.

I like the BM dress and I like your dress.

In my experience I’ve had one bridesmaid that has stood out above the rest and helped me tremendously. My other BMs come to things when they can, they helped with my bridal shower, they listen to my vents, but they aren’t really that involved.

The BM that has helped me tremendously just got engaged. She’s already had her other BM’s start pinterest boards for her, offer to make things, do things, etc. They are all extremely crafty, as she is too, that is why she has helped me so much. I’m not crafty at all and I’m having a hard time getting as involved with the other girls because I don’t know what to offer her. I’m her ear to listen, I’ll be available whenever she needs me, and if she needs something ordered off Etsy I’m her girl!

I think it just comes down to personality and how much time people have. Try not to worry about it. Just be thankful they are there your wedding weekend supporting you and FH, the day will work out!

No they don't know about my philosophy on that because its not their business.

It really wasn't yours but I felt I could share. But I guess not.

Well I do have to say, I love your new idea. Sorry to jump so quickly. I wanted deep red roses for my wedding b/c I love the contrast of them with black. I do agree that if you have brides who are more voluptuous then the dress might not work.

I will stand by my comments on you being rude about your BMs. Wait until they try them on. If they still don't like them they can either A. grin and bare it or B. you will have to compromise yet again.

Okay I have been known to be full of drama on here so I'm going to just say relax, think about everyone's time and body. Pray for the best and good luck on your wedding. At the end of the day it's about you marrying the person you love. Good luck.
