Menu Help!! - is fish on the menu weird?

So here's the run down - our venue includes a 4 course plated dinner. Everything on the menu is gourmet. However our favorite dish on the menu was a white fish that was outstanding. They are only letting us pick 1 dish for everyone, or we can do 50/50 with another dish which means that I get steak,...

So here's the run down - our venue includes a 4 course plated dinner. Everything on the menu is gourmet. However our favorite dish on the menu was a white fish that was outstanding. They are only letting us pick 1 dish for everyone, or we can do 50/50 with another dish which means that I get steak, you get fish, the person next to you gets steak, the person next to them gets fish, and so on. It's every other seat. It's a dumb setup but I gotta work with it.

and YES they do let me get all the dietary restrictions/vegetarian/allergy orders in beforehand so those people get something special.

**EDIT**

If you're wondering the outcome of this thread. I decided on doing 100% steak option for the entree. It's hard to mess up steak and I think most will be pleased with it. Now do I do the one that soaked in wine or the one with a pasilla chile demi-glace? Smiley laugh

So it's not that you can't change venues. It's that you don't want to. In that case, you should serve the chicken for everyone.

I would argue that a venue that offers multiple choices (like chicken/steak/veg) is superior to a venue that only offers one choice, even if that choice is lamb, veal, etc.

I always heard the food over there was terrible and tasteless.

My issue is that people may have allergies to fish, that can cause an issue

The 50/50 option wouldn't work in my family. DH and oldest daughter HATE fish. I'm picky on my fish, I will only eat Cod. Sister in law won't eat fish either unless its Salmon. It's weird. I would see if you could be charged a little more for them to offer the choice.

Ultimately the type of food you decide to serve is irrelevant. This venue's policy sucks, and that's that.

How many guests are attending that would not be used to this type of wedding style? I mean you should notify them at the very least as well.

I didn't read all the comments. The "every other person" thing seems weird. I know a lot of people who do not eat fish, some who don't eat red meat, and some who are vegetarians. Seems weird that they make you pick like this. I feel like you are risking that some people will be forced to eat something they don't like.

Um we didn't do fish because it was disgusting during our tasting. We're sticking with chicken, steak and a turkey carving station. However, if fish works for you then do it.

I sounds to me like they don't feel confident enough to figure out who would get what meal, if there was a choice. So, they make it easier on themselves.

That sucks that they won't let you choose two. 50/50 is tough because we have beef and fish options and 75% chose the beef option.

Definitely don't do the 50/50 that's weird and would make me really uncomfortable to ask the person sitting next to me to switch...

Offer chicken or vegetarian and be done with it.

I'd love fish but not sure how many of your guests would

Honestly, this is poor planning on the venue's part...cutting cots or no. Fish is great, but the every other option is really weird. Also, some people get SICK eating beef or fish (I know both types personally). So do those people now have to beg the person next to them to swap plates and hope they get to eat that night? A vegetation option is also very important. We went with Tri-tip and chicken. Our veggies are covered by amazing salad and sides (I asked one of my BMs who is a vegetarian and she said it sounded wonderful). Our appetizers during cocktail hour will be 50/50 regular and vegetarian.

@Elk is right. Their policy does suck. There is no good answer here. If you don't give people a choice in what they eat, many will dislike what they are served and/or go hungry. That's a shitty policy for a venue to have

"Our veggies are covered by amazing salad and sides. (I asked one of my BMs who is a vegetarian and she said it sounded wonderful)."

I'm sorry, but that's just awful. I can't imagine a bigger food let-down than salad for dinner at a wedding. You're not treating your vegetarians well, IMO.

Nicole, what's the problem? Elk was honest. If more people had been honest with the OP, maybe she wouldn't have picked this venue.
