Man of Honor?

Amber, on February 1, 2013 at 2:35 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

Is it weird that I want my best friend of 11 years, who is a guy, to be my maid of honor? I won't put him in a dress or anything, but I can't imagine anyone else that I want for that role. He'll keep me grounded and sane better than anyone.

Anyone other brides out there with men in their bridal party?

    Do it forsure.

I was at a wedding recently where the groom had his sister be his best-lady.

It's your day you should have those most special to you.

Absolutely do it, it's your wedding and you don't want to look back and regret anything. My FH is having his friend of 10 years be his best girl. At first I was against it but now I don't mind. I was worried the pictures would look weird but they are close so I don't mind.

My best friend of 12 years, who happens to be guy, is my Man of honor, and my sister is my bridesmaid. He'll keep me sane, keep people in line, and I can't imagine standing up there without him.

    Go for it!

I say do what makes you happy! Screw what other think. It's what YOU think that's important. Wouldn't hurt if he looked like Patrick Dempsey (Movie: Maid of Honor) LOL

    Laura, that's so sweet!

Well, he doesn't look like Patrick Dempsey, otherwise, he'd probably by my groom, lol. He actually compares himself to an overgrown, balding hobbit!

My sister will be my matron of honor and I do worry that it'll throw off the balance in photos and the ceremony. After the wedding, he'll be walking back down the isle next to one of my fiance's brothers, which should be interesting.

But I think I'll do it. I have a panic disorder and he knows how to handle me when I'm going crazy! My groom does too, but since I won't see him most of the wedding day, I need my back up Smiley smile

Not weird at all. My brother might stand on my side instead of FHs side - still deciding.

As a wedding planner and designer, I have seen this many times and I highly recommend it as you need the person who is going to support you the most beside you, congratulating you, holding your hand (and bouquet) and wiping the happy tears gently away! Go for it....you will regret it if you do not!

Congrats & have a fabulous marriage!

Amber, I am also having a man of honor and I also get panic attacks sometimes, too. Not only is my MOH my best friend and I wouldn't feel right if he weren't the one standing right there next to me. If you feel very strongly about, go for it! I am thinking about asking him to try and work it into his toast so everyone will know who he is (even if they don't really accept it).

My BFF said he'd wear a kilt as he is half scottish. But I haven't decided on bridesmaids' dresses yet so I'm not sure what I want him in...

At one point, he even said he'd wear a dress, but I'm pretty sure that would give my fiance's very old school Spanish Catholic grandmother a heart attack!

We did. When we got engaged, we asked my son to be best man and my daughter to be maid of honor. My daughter agreed immediately. My son said he could not be a best man, because a best man is a groom's attendant, and we failed to have a groom. After some negotiation, he was designated dude of honor. And no, he didn't wear a dress. Since we didn't need the attendants to match, we let them wear any nice clothes they already owned, so he wore a suit and tie.
