Late night/midnight snack - What would you want?

Mallory Abroad, on September 10, 2013 at 10:33 AM Posted in Planning 0 23

So after dinner and all that.

My families wedding tend to go on all night. So we do need to have a late night snack for people.

So what would you want to eat?

We actually had smokies as our late night snack. Went over really great.

Seen late night pizza, also a good choice.

One venue I looked at offered a midnight menu that included mini sliders, french fries, pigs in a blanket, chicken tenders etc...it was a "high-class" bar food menu..I would be SO okay with all of that! Smiley smile

Are you having any sort of theme? Depending on what city/state you're in, are there "local favorites " that you can only get there?

I wanted to do late night snacks, but the budget is probably not going to permit, which I'm okay with too - it was one of those nice to haves, but not a must. I wanted to do White Castles and a local flavored soda (a notorious St. Louis late night snack).

I've seen cute ideas for chicken & biscuits with a Mason Jar of sweet tea.

We want to do this as well and were thinking some kind of pizza or sliders or something. Then our venue coordinator suggested that instead of doing another mini meal, we save our dessert until 10:30-11pm ish. FH and I both loved this idea.

Realistically, after passed appetizers, bread, salad, and a large main course, most people would be pretty full. So instead of having dessert/cake immediately (and having a lot of it wasted, most likely) we will wait until a bit later. We're doing a spread of mini desserts and cheese platters, as well as our cake cutting. Something savory, something sweet, and gives people another reason to stick around a bit later!

Bonus- dessert is built into the price of the meal. So we're saving money too!

They say fatty food soaks up the liquor the best. What about appetizers like chicken wings (or strips - less messy) , cheese sticks, toasted ravioli (a st. louis thing). I like the smokies idea! Love those things! The other idea I've seen is cookies & milk, which I think is sweet!

I think that's a cool idea. I planned a late snack for our wedding shower and it worked out well.

@Watts517 - Hello Fellow STL Bride! It's my hometown and wouldn't trade it for the world. No longer live there, but my fiance' is still there.

And you are soooo right, Toasted ravioli is a St. Louis thing. I live in the suburbs of Dallas and when I go grocery shopping at Wallyworld they actually carry frozen toasted ravioli from a St. Louis producer....I'm always all over it when they're in stock.

So let me ask you the notorious STL question....LOL - what high school did you go to?

Sliders, mozz sticks, mini-pizzas, taco bar & baked potato bar (best wedding ever!)!

The possibilities are endless! My best guess is to aim for a variety that hit all the "right" tastes: salty, sweet, savory & filling!

We're giving everyone small personalized boxes to take extra cake back to the room with them. Do you think your cake will be big enough to do that?

BBQ (aka pulled pork in the rest of the country) sliders? I am hoping to maybe have that as an app during my cocktail hour/half hour.

@GameCox: YES pulled pork omnomnomnom...I would be all over that at a wedding, or anywhere else for that matter. Although it may be easier to eat from a little bowl with a fork instead of on a slider? It is kind of messy.

You can't go wrong with grilled cheese for a late night snack. Maybe a couple different fillings, like tomato or bacon?
