Kissing at the reception

ASDM717, on March 7, 2017 at 11:43 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 67

My FH and I are looking for creative ways to get us to kiss at the reception besides clinking of glasses- I can't stand that noise! :-/

My FH is a Basketball coach and thought it would be fun to have it related to that or sports. Other friends of ours have done shooting a mini basketball in a hoop and if you make it they kiss, but I want to try to have something different if we can think of something. TIA!

Michael's has placecards with little bells on them that people can ring, although that's probably similar to the glass clinking noise...

I would skip it. Having to kiss on demand is weird.

I hate that I know this...

Joanne's sells packs of "kissing bells" - they're small silver bells that have a silly poem tag on them about ringing the bell each time you want the bride and groom to kiss.

My FMIL bought 4 packs at a yard sale. We're using them for our exit after the ceremony; instead of rice/confetti/bubbles being thrown/blown, people can ring the bells.

I have the opposite problem of you - finding ways to prevent people from trying to make us kiss on request.

I find the "kissing on demand" weird! I'm in the same onboard as @Cheval.. finding ways so they don't do it!

My family does this too. The clinking will go on unless you give them another option!

Love the basketball hoop idea! I've also seen the kissing bells - not nearly as awful as glass clinking!

I hate hate whole idea of this. I will kiss my husband when I want to and not because a family member thinks it would be cute.

You could go with a whistle since he is a coach but I think that would be worse than clinking...

I'm trying to find a way to get people to NOT have us kissing constantly. Like damn, I love my FH and I love kissing him, but I don't want a crowd of 150 people watching us kiss every 2 seconds. I really hate it when people think it's hilarious to do this when the couple has a mouthful of food.

FH and I did jokingly talk about throwing rolls at people when they click the glasses. I'm not so sure how much we were really joking though.

I'd rather hear bells than clinking. I think we'll just stick to the clinking sound. It's what everyone knows. Anything else might be hard to explain.

@APD I seriously didnt know this was a thing. I guess it just doesnt happen in my circle. I would be pissed if people expected me to kiss on demand.

@Karie. I was thinking the same thing. The whistle idea popped in my head as I read it but then I thought uhhmmm maybe that's not a good idea. LoL

Ew. Maybe if you just don't kiss the first time that people clink their glasses then they wont do it again

@AD it's been a thing at every wedding I have been to. I think it's funny how there are a lot of us one here that haven't heard of things that seem to be so common to others. Everyone is so different from the other and I enjoy it.
