Keep or Cancel: Garter Toss?

I have to confess that I've never actually seen a garter toss in person! But apparently 37% of grooms still participate in this reception tradition! Will this toss tradition make the cut for your wedding? Do you want to keep or cancel this toss tradition? Photo from Red Gate Farms in Savannah, GA...

FH will have plenty of guys to be up there and he wants to keep it, so we will be doing the garter toss.

Cancel. It is so awkward and weird, and I highly doubt that FH would do it, especially in front of his family.

Keep!! These traditions may be a bit cheesy, but it's what we have always seen and done at weddings. So we're going for it!!

Cancel. It’s awkward and goes rly sometimes gross (going up the brides skirt in front of guests, really?)

Lynnie that is so interesting that you haven't seen it, it must be regional! I feel like they happen more often than not, I can't think of a wedding I've been to that didn't have one. BUT that said we're not doing one. It's not us at all. Instead we are tossing the bouquet together, and anyone is welcome to catch it

Cancel. It’s weird. And unnecessary - also cancel the bouquet toss.

We're not planning a garter toss.

But I think it's interesting that this forum roughly matches the 37% total.

Cancel! We are having a small wedding and most of the guests won't be single anyway so it seems pointless. Plus we'd rather spend time doing other things - like eating!! Smiley xd

Cancel, cancel, cancel. This is even worse than the bouquet toss. I've said it before, but the last thing I need at our wedding is for my husband to fish up my dress to remove an article of clothing meant to symbolize my alleged "purity" to toss it into a crowd of his buddies. No way.

I think we are going to keep both the garter toss and the bouquet toss! However, I don't know if I want my future husband going up my dress in order to get it in front of all our friends and family. I'll probably just give it to him at some point to throw Smiley laugh

I would be okay if we skipped it but it is one thing my fiance has said he absolutely wants to do so we are doing both the garter and bouquet toss.

Keep - this is the same answer as the bouquet toss. If FH wants to do it then both stay, if he doesn't then we'll nix them both, but I am hoping he keeps it Smiley smile

Cancel. There are not many single guests plus I'm not even going to wear a garter. If FH decided he wanted to do one, there would be a garter stashed somewhere for him to toss.

Oh yes !! Its alot of fun and deff a tradition worth keeping gets everyone to laugh and have fun Smiley smile when you toss the bouqet whoever catches that and the garter girl who caught bouquet sits in chair like you do to get garter off and its reversal the guy who caught garter now has to put it on the girl who caught the bouquet lmao its alot of laughs

No Way José! I feel too uncomfortable having my husband under my dress in front of all our family and friends

Canceling the bouquet and the garter toss. Besides the fact that both are cringy, the bouquet toss particularly is gross. Singling out your single friends and family and having them compete to catch something so they can be the "next one" to get married implies that they are sad or desperate when actually you are a whole person and fierce by yourself without getting needing a ceremony to define you as a person. Plus, if you actually are sad and desperate to be married, which I get because I've watched everyone else in my life get married, the last thing you want is to be pulled out in front of everyone to have a flashlight shone on your vulnerability. No thanks.
