No not at all, this gives you time to find the best prices and the things you want most. Take your time don't buy everything at once unless it's a really good price

No it gives you time to plan, save and really look for what you want for your special day! My friend's brother's fiancee has been planning for 3 years.

I started planning (or at least getting ideas) the week after we got engaged -- which was December '08...then I had a lull for awhile, and I just signed with our venue the first week of January for a November 2012 wedding....so not to early at all Smiley smile The earlier you start, the more time you have to find the good deals (like vistaprint.com) and awesome sellers on etsy.com

Nope, I started planning at the two year mark and still feel like I don't have enough time with over a year left to go...time flies by

NOT AT ALL! I have been planning for 6 months already and I'm down to 18 months and still feel like I'm going to run out of time! Having that much time give you time to find the best prices and make sure that it's exactly what you want and that you're not settling for anything because you just need to get it done! Have fun planning!

I started planning my wedding a month after we got engaged... so I have been planning since May 2010 for an April 2011 wedding and let me tell you I am glad I started when I did. I really think that the more time you have, the better. I had options, in regards to vendors and could also make changes to whatever I wanted if needed. But planning a wedding can be stressing and if you're going to do it for 2 years... by the time a year goes by, you'll wish it was all over and done with, in my opinion.

I guess the best advice I can give you if you're going to start now is... listen to people's comments, advice, etc BUT only use what they say as a suggestion. Do what you want to do because if you're like most of us, you'll try to please everyone and that just never works out for you, cause you can't please everyone. Do what makes you and your husband happy.

I also started planning when I got engaged of March 2010 and I'm getting married in Sept 2011. People kept telling me "you have time, don't rush, etc etc" Glad I started when I did! You are absolutley fine starting to plan now. No worries, and happy planning! Smiley smile

@ Kayla-- Wow that is crazy!! I'm jealous I wish we were getting married this year instead of next, but we are both waiting until I finish grad school and he finishes his bachelors and actually gets a job!!!

Ok the only reason that i'll say that it's too early is that you might change your mind sooooo many times from now until them. We'll be engaged for 2 years when we get married in November and lemme tell ya, I've changed color schemes, flowers, etc. etc.... so it's great to get ideas, but my recommendation would be to look around for ideas and such, but don't buy anything or leave deposits on venues (or anything permanent) until at least a year before, just so you don't have regrets later. Happy planning Smiley smile

Nope! But do keep in mind that you may change your mind on stuff. So if you are like me once a decision is made its made you got something in your corner. If you are like my ex-friend who can't make a decision unless push comes to shove..ya may wanna wait a bit...

No way! Just remember that weddings are a little fad-intensive and some things you love may have gone out of style by then LOL! Give yourself permission to change your mind.

There is plenty you can do early. I spent the first few months after we set the date just researching weddings. I checked out about a dozen wedding planning books from the public library. I listened to wedding planning podcasts, and watched a zillion wedding planning TV shows. I found web sites like this one and started inspiration boards.

I also talked to FH about what he wanted and we came to some big conclusions such as where we would have the wedding, and we even looked at some venues. When we found the one we wanted, we went ahead and booked it. That happened roughly 15 months before the wedding.

FH and I tasted cakes and I played around with color ideas, and came to some firm decisions about the wedding party and who I wanted (and didn't want) to be in it.

I started planning for 2 years then realized how difficult all of this planning was going to be and pushed it back another 2 years. Right now I have all of the ground work in place so when it comes time to put things into motion I know just what to do. But seriously, planning 2 years ahead is great because there are always things that creep up on you or something that you haven't considered. Spreading the work out will give you more time to relax and if something does go wrong then you have plenty of time to come up with a solution.
