So maybe the two of them get to talking one day and they have generally civilized nerdy conversation and talk on past when they were supposed to be inside and she thinks he's fun to talk to and he thinks he's going to keep an eye out for her, And maybe he sees her again and chases her down and asks her to coffee but they're both broke as church mice so she makes a pot of coffee at home and by the way that laptop's brains are a little scrambled can you help me, And maybe he grabs a stack of CDs from the van and starts tinkering and unscrambling and they get to talking again and nerd out all over the place and the little blue progress bar is going blink blink blink and her knees are by his knees and they both forget all about the coffee, And maybe she keeps telling people that she doesn't want to be in a relationship and tells him that she doesn't want to be in a relationship and swears up and down that she's going to be single for a while but craves him anyway, And maybe they talk about tattoos and spiritual stuff and tattoos of spiritual stuff and how much Buddhism and Catholicism and a couple of other isms run together and they look at pictures and beads and get to talking again and nerd it up way on beyond midnight, And maybe he sets the hook, And maybe they practice and pray and meditate and eat doughnuts after Mass and they get to talking again and joke and mess around about wearing his sangha robes in the cathedral when they get married and her friends like him and his friends like her even though Louie the Dog tried to eat her and even the kids like each other and they all think this is way too weird, And maybe this marriage thing just keeps coming up but they swat it away because it's way too early and we shouldn't rush things and so they get to talking about something else and something else but then it comes up again but they just forget about it and have some more coffee, And maybe they hold hands in the cathedral and try not to talk about it but it won't go away and he finally just asks her, And maybe she says she will, And maybe his stepmom does girly squeals on the phone and she asks when it will be and she says I dunno he just proposed twenty minutes ago and they talk and talk until all the relatives are called and then it's quiet, And maybe she lays her head on his shoulder and they start to wonder if this is going to be trouble or if they should really go through with it so they go down to the store for a candy bar and stop talking about it and he says guess what I love you and she smiles and says I love you too because sometimes you just know.
