Invitations: DIY or ordered???

NG, on April 6, 2013 at 12:45 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 33

Hi everyone, my name is NG (yes, it's really just two letters, LoL). I'm new to the forum, this is actually my first post. I'm getting married in November of this year and I haven't done much of anything. I would like to get your expertise on invites, is it cheaper to buy them or make them yourself??? I'm not really big on DIY because I'm not really creative. But I'm looking for the cheapest route when it comes to invitations. Any thoughts???

Welcome to wedding wire NG! Congrats! I would say its probably cheaper to DIY if you have an inkling as to what to do. Check out www.weddingchicks.com

They have free templates that you can either send to a commercial printer or print at home. They have lots of options and are totally customizable.

    Good luck!

    Check out www.vistaprint.com

They are usually pretty cheap, plus there is a LivingSocial deal out right now, $19 for $75 worth of wedding invites!

I'm getting my invites from einvite.com, they have these all-in-one invites, where you can put directions and everything, then the rsvp is on the end and the guests can just tear it off and mail it, it's like a little postcard Smiley smile and they're only 180 for 100 I believe.

I did Vista Print with a Groupon and Living Social Coupon. They were very inexpensive.

I wanted something a little different from the norm so I am going with www.Bweddinginvitations.com . I really like the laser cut ones and they are very affordable.

Welcome to WW, Ng! Vistaprint is a great inexpensive option for invitations. I uploaded a template from Wedding Chicks to use and got TONS of stuff from them for under $40. Here's a link to my post about my haul, to give you an idea of what just how much you can get from VP for very little: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/ode-to-hayley-fawn-and-cyndi-aka-my-vistaprint-haul/65ea210239feeede.html

I hope you'll update your avatar (the rings) to ANY unique picture you can find on Google we can more easily recognize in the future (and not WW's other defaults.) This post tell you how to do that: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/welcome-to-the-weddingwire-forums-please-read-if-you-are-new/b433c40c1a62b96a.html

Thanks guys. I hate this wedding stuff. I really wish the FH would do this silly stuff and I'd just do the food tasting. This invite stuff is giving me a headache...

Hey NG, I'm in New York City - I see you are in Brooklyn. Send me an email. I'll show you the ones I did for my friend on Vistaprint and then we are going to add jewels to them. **********@*****.*** I think a combo of the two are often best - your own take on invites and diy as well. I'll email you a couple of proofs.

I bought mine from Michael's, which I didn't mind since the one invites I had to have were quoted for $695 for 100 invites, I said no way jose. We like them and spent about $50 for 150.

I found my DIY invitations at a local bargain/closeout store. $5.99 per box of 50 (invitations, response cards, envelopes). It was WAY cheaper to do this. It's a little bit time consuming, but there are plenty of pretty fonts out there (dafont.com, 1001freefonts.com), and you make it look the way you want without spending an arm and a leg.

The invitations are by Laura Ashley. The fonts I used are Book Antiqua (from Word) and Champignon (from dafont.com).

I did my own. I bought 66 lb. paper with most of my color scheme from Staples and jewels from Michaels. I also bought the envelopes and 110 lb. paper from LCI Paper. They probably weren't the cheapest invitations (about $100 for 75), but this allowed me to have full control on creativity. I used leftovers to make thank you notes and programs, and plan to use them for a scrapbook whenever I get around to starting it.

Hello ma'am. My fiancee' and I are doing our own invitations for more than one reason. One, when you buy them they can be overly expensive and they will end up in the trash. If you guys make your own, with a picture of you, they will love them and keep them. They are much less expensive, and you can customize them to say what you and your man really feel. DIY them sweetie, you will glad you did. Good luck!
