In lieu of shower wording

Instead of a wedding shower my daughter would like people to contribute money to her honeymoon fund. She has a website set up through a company online where it describes their honeymoon plans. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to word a invite for that?

You can't think of a way to say it, because there's no way to ask for money without sounding rude, greedy, offensive and entitled.

Believe it or not, these things do actually exist. Your daughter has every right to ask for whatever she wants. You want her guests to spend their money on things they will actually use or put towards use right? I've been to multiple showers where the couple just wants gift cards due to them building a house, second marriage, etc. you can google "Wishing Well" invites and fine some sayings. I found this one on Zazzle. Another option, have you heard of the "dollar dance" guests get in line to do a quick dance with the bride/groom and they give a dollar. Goes towards the honeymoon fund! It's very common where I'm from and it's a nice way to have a quick mingle with your guests! Look up some videos.

This woman was simply asking for suggestions. Not insults. Everyone has their own customs, traditions, and ideas to use for their big day. Quite frankly, times have changed and are still changing daily! Plan your wedding however YOU want. Quit being keyboard trolls.

I think this is a troll but in case not:

    1. There is no nice way to do this. It will be rude enough to do a honeyfund but to ask for donations for her sex vacation in lieu of a shower is a whole new level.

    2. If the goal really is to do something related to the honeymoon then make the shower honeymoon themed. Rather than giving typical guess it can be a hybrid lingerie/travel shower. You can tell guests where they are going and then guests could get them local gift cards, travel accessories, or lingerie.

    3. Id find it incredibly awkward if my mother wanted to focus on the honeymoon for a shower. Debate over whether the brides family should host aside, lets be honest the honeymoon is all about sex. So as mentioned above this is basically the mother of the bride asking people to fund her daughter's sex trip

@ Whitney you can post all the cute cards you can find but it's still rude to directly ask guests to fund your honeymoon

Grown-ups know how to get cash and don't need cute rhymes

And the dollar dance is also rude unless it's part of your culture

Seeing a PP regarding registering for gifts based on the ease of getting $ for returning the items...please don't do this. That's just shady in general n shitty for your guests who spent time picking out your gift n wrapping it, etc.

I would skip the shower all together. The money saved can go to your own honeymoon fund. I personally didn't have an engagement party or bridal shower. I mean, how many gifts do people have to give you just because you are getting married? I have enough, my fiance and I have been together a long time. People can save their money and just show up to the wedding, which by the way, we do not have a registry either and told people not to get us anything.

So, if this is cool, can brides now have a "pay my mortgage", "pay my school loan", "pay my rent", "pay my car off" fund drive, or does it have to be wedding-centric to kinda/sorta save face? Okay then, how, "pay for our PP charges, 250 people @ $145 PP", "pay for our cocktail hour, or our mocktail hours", "pay for our wedding photographer", "pay for our wedding videographer", "pay for my gown and its alterations", "pay for our wedding bands", "pay off the balance on my engagement rings", "pay for uplighting", pay for our DJ", "pay for our open bar ('cause cash bars are so rude!)", "pay for my MOB and MOG gowns", "pay for my upgraded linens", "pay for my six tier wedding cake", "pay for our photobooth", 'pay for our officiant", "pay for our flowers -- bouquets, bouts, corsages, ceremony pieces, sweetheart table piece, and all centerpieces", "pay for our wedding planner or DOC", "pay for tipping our amazing vendors (to be dispersed according to importance and performance", "pay for our party bus or shuttle transport", "pay for our Rehearsal Dinner", "pay for bachelor/bachelorette parties", "pay for our honeymoon"....oops, see how well that last one fit beautifully into this list of tin-cupping it? That should tell you something.

Honor attendants plan and pay for showers ad bachelorette parties. Mothers should never consider sending out donation cards for their daughters' honeymoon. Why doesn't that equate with some people? She and her husband, adults, should have saved for a honeymoon if they wanted one. Their other option is to see how much money their guests gave them, and if they have enough, they can fund their honeymoon.

Honestly, OP, if I received (or heard about) this invitation to finance your daughter's non-existent honeymoon, I'm sending a "regretfully declines" response. Why? Because it's very clear that your family and mine see weddings in a totally different light, and I cannot, cannot, cannot ask a group of loved ones who have already dressed, spent money, and are attending my daughter's wedding, to do just one more thing -- pay for her honeymoon,

    No way.

I would advise against having a shower at all. Seriously. I'm not having one, because we are also doing a Honeyfund.

I know the Honeyfund gets a ton of flack. We are doing one and also providing an option for guests to donate to a local nonprofit in our honor. I also make it clear on our site we do not expect gifts. We are in our mid thirties, have been together for 6 years, and already have too many household goods. If people don't want to contribute to the Honeyfund, that's totally fine. We have the money for it.

FH and I both firmly and genuinely believe that an adventure together to build memories to last forever is important. More than a platter is important. I know people who haven't opened their gifts a YEAR after their wedding.

If people want to give a gift of money they can and will, don't ask. As had already been said over and over again, it is rude. Just thought I'd add my opinion Smiley smile Yes, it's rude to ask for money! If you don't have money for something change your plans, FH and I just had to change our honeymoon plans due to $. I can't imagine asking people to pay for me to go on a trip with my husband. The idea seems wrong and rude to me.

Oh I think I misunderstood your question. Don't mention anything on the invite, develop a wedding website with any registry details and more wedding info, and include the site link on the invitation. At least do something like an online Honeyfund so people can pick a special activity they'd like to contribute to.

Still waiting for the cute invitation from bunnyandchingy.

    I'm so vain

    Wanna make it rain

I want a moon made of honey

    So give me your money

    Won't have a shower

    So you won't get cake

You'll just get a thank you

That, like me, is a fake

@ Whitney - did you read the original post? They don't even want to host a shower, just ask people to give money without hosting a shower.

My mom threw me a shower and me and FH already live together. Nothing was said on the invitation that's rude but about 80% of the girls that came gave us cash and gift cards. But again this wasn't said on the invitations

Hai, so I know someone who did this. Cutesy poem and all. Guess what? She got all kitchenware, linens, and other household items that people thought she and her FH might need. She also got several cookbooks, and books on personal finance in marriage.

No one contributed to her Honeymoon fund. Her friends and family took a decidedly passive-aggressive approach to the crass invite.
