In lieu of shower wording

Instead of a wedding shower my daughter would like people to contribute money to her honeymoon fund. She has a website set up through a company online where it describes their honeymoon plans. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to word a invite for that?

Cutesy poems don't make asking for money any better. You might as well try writing them on cardboard and panhandling. "No wedding shower. Need money for sexvacay. God bless"

There is no polite way to ask for cash, whether that cash be requested in lieu of physical gifts at a shower, or instead of the shower altogether.

@Stacey- it is your responsibility to teach your daughter proper etiquette. Don't support her in this ill conceived notion.

ps I do think many of you are misinterpreting the question. She asked how to word the invite (I hate this word. It is a verb. The noun is invitation), so it appears they are planning a shower but want to ask for cash instead of physical gifts.

It's not "free" to attend a wedding.

You have to make sure you have something to wear, transportation-so either gas/ toll money OR Uber, possibly take time off of work, possibly pay a babysitter, and of course bring a wedding gift.

It's your choice (the couple) to have a big fancy reception. If you don't want to pay for your closest friends and family to eat and dance for "free", then elope.

As long as it's a cutesy rhyme, this is totally acceptable. Here's a suggestion:

    I hate you all

    So there is no shower

    I'm the bride

So I have all the power

    Please give me money

    To fund our honeymoon

If you're coming to the wedding

We'll see you soon Smiley smile

She is not even asking for money as a wedding gift. She is asking or money as a SHOWER gift despite not having a shower. The guests are being asked to give money as a gift for a party that isn't happening. There will be no eating or dancing.

    But here's a poem

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?

Summer doesn't give me any money but you should, okay?

Do the shower but make sure she registers at a place that she shops at often and allows her to exchange gifts for credit or refund. She can also limit the amount of items she registers for or use a registry site that allows her to put the option to donate money instead of a gift. Honestly, I see nothing wrong with requesting money over a gift that you don't really want. At the end of the day, there will be people who judge and others who don't no matter what you do.

Honestly, there is no need to specifically ask for cash. Adults will figure it out. New adults will ask others.

I didn't register or give a cutesy poem and people somehow managed to give me cards with checks/cash in them.

    Just let adults be adults.

ETA: however, I also skipped the shower since I didn't register. That's just weird.

A store she shops at so she can return the gifts for credit/refund? There's so much nope with that.

I thought the whole point of a registry was to register for things you wanted....

@KittyPrawn- she is wanting to ask for cash for shower gifts, not wedding gifts.

@micka that is awful. People are giving you gifts out of the generosity of their hearts. To exchange them for cash is just rude to people you care about. Terrible.
