It's a southern tradition to have a bridals done then have one on display at the reception. I personally don't understand this tradition but I just wanted to help explain it.

@Futureafu- following that tradition you've done everything correctly. :-) It's just confusing to people that aren't familiar with it.

I'm the same as Analy, I've never seen this at a wedding before, and I don't understand the concept, I thought the photos at the reception was supposed to be a picture of the both of you..

@future- I've seen it and totally get it. Im not sure if this is a regional thing but the bridal session is typically for the bride only. That's not to say that a groom couldn't get his own private session. But yep its photos of the bride. I've actually seen both at weddings. Single pics of the bride from her bridal session and also engagement photos of the couple.

Oh I like Picture #1 the best.

I like #3. And I have been to weddings where the bridal portrait is displayed only of the bride. I didn't know it was weird either Futureafu...

I like 4 but I would have said 2 if it was in color. I agree, I understand bridal portraits but never heard of displaying at the reception. I have only heard of having a engagement picture of the couple displayed or memorial photos. However, I would do whatever you like, its your wedding!

I'm somewhere between 1& 2 (esp 2 if the light was better).

I guess bridals are a southern thing - though my cousin in NY had one, too.

I decided against the bridal since I wasn't marrying myself - but to each his own, and I understand the tradition (not sure where it came from, though).

I was going to say the same thing as Nov Bride. It's a "southern" tradition to display the bride in all her beautiful glory. Perpetuates the thought that the poor "schmuck" of a groom is just a mere guest at "the bride's wedding" LOL Smiley smile My friends have blown up several pics and displayed one by the escort cards, at the gift table, at the guestbook table, etc.

I like #1 the best Smiley smile

I've never heard of it nor do I don't get it but if Nov Bride '10 said it's a southern thing than that explains it all (no offense), not trying to be a b*tch. I just don't get a lot of southern traditions but hey oh well. You look beautiful in all of them but I think my absolute favorite is........................#1 but I wish it wasn't so bright. My next fav is #3. :-D

I like #2 the best. I think it's the most fun, but I agree I'd like it more in color.

@ Future- aww honey don't take it so hard! Keep in mind that we don't live in your area, and don't hold the traditions that you do! If it's something that has been done for ages there, and people are expecting it, you shoud do it! Every wedding is different! Maybe you could display them with other phots of you AND FS, like a collage? Or perhaps in a slideshow? They are beautiful regardless!

LOL I'm guessing everyone is right to say its a Southern tradition...that example picture I posted was from another wedding in NC. Oh well, no need in wasting that money! All of the pictures will be on a slide show anyways along with some ones of the e-pics. That will suffice for me! Smiley smile Thanks everyone again for all the comments!

Futureafu- if this is what you want to do I think you should do it! If most of us havent heard of it its most likely because its a southern tradition. I say go for it! I dont think your guests are going to frown on it. I think they will appreciate it and love your portrait, its beautiful. Smiley smile Plus I think its a nice surprise for your FH

    .

I am displaying this at our wedding along with other pictures.

@Futureafu- GO ahead and print and diplay your photo. Its' the only time you're going to get to show it off to the world. I am not from the South however I am having a bridal session and I will probably post a photo at my wedding reception. I'm also posting our engagement photos at the reception. You took the pictures, go ahead and show the world. No one at your wedding is going to think your rude, crazy or weird because you have your bridal portrait up. Most likely they would expect it.
