i hate my wedding dress :(

Devon, on June 21, 2020 at 4:10 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 3 77
I'm just here to vent. My wedding is less than a month away and I just picked up my dress from my last appt last week. I just thought that I would love it more.

I bought my dress on a budget because we don't have a lot of extra money to spend, and I'm really not a "dress up" person. I had a "moment" with a dress that was out of my price range but got over it.
My current dress is just not me at all, fits me awkwardly, and doesn't have a train. I dont know what I was thinking when I bought it. I am so disappointed that I have to wear this horrible dress and spend money on it. It makes me feel like a sausage. Sorry, I'm just wallowing 😭i hate my wedding dress :( 1

Girl you look AMAZING in that dress. It fits perfectly! But if you’re not comfortable in it sometimes you can find a seamstress that can work wonders and turn it into something totally different. I am sure they would know how to add a train or make it into something youd like more

This is after spending over $350 on alterations. Couldn't get the lace for a train to add on. But thank you for the kind words ❤ I'm just disheartened this close to the wedding.

You look gorgeous! A mermaid petticoat would give it a bit more volume at the bottom which I think might help a little bit, but it’s a beautiful dress!

Maybe I'll try one on. It hits the ground at the perfect spot right now, so I fear that might make it too short. Worth a shot!

Well from an outside perspective it really does look great. You could also get some shoes and a headpiece that you really feel great in. Hope it works out! Smiley smile

Just seconding what everyone has already said, in your pictures that dress looks GREAT on you. Hopefully you can make a few tweaks and accessories so you feel comfortable and confident in your dress.

I think it looks great on you! Maybe a little more flare at the bottom. I would try a fit and flare slip/petticoat just to add a little something to the bottom.
Also could you add a bigger / different belt/sash?
Have you picked out accessories...veil, headpiece, etc?

You look really lovely in the dress but if you’re feeling so strongly about it, I think you might need to look at another dress. Just because you look great in it, it doesn’t necessarily mean it is YOUR dress if you aren’t wowed by it.
I would perhaps see if any local bridal salons near you have anything discounted that you can buy off the rack? Just to have a look at least. For all you know, you might realize when trying on other dresses that you actually do love yours?

The belt is sewed on so im stuck with that lol. I originally picked out the white gold jewelry that I'm wearing in the picture, but have swapped it out for rose gold. Still haven't decided if I will be wearing a headpiece or not, I can't find any that will stay on my head 😅

Thank you for the feedback ❤ With the coronavirus, there aren't many shops open and I wouldn't have time to get it altered. I'm getting married in exactly 3 weeks lol. I'm just not a super flashy or overly emotional person, so I knew that any dress I picked would be something I was just "okay" with if that makes sense. I'm just now kind of bummed, but I can't really afford to buy another dress just because I feel bummed 😞

Oh sorry! I completely overlooked the jewelry as I was assessing the dress! Lol
I had a feeling the belt might be sewn on.
I’ve heard of headpieces with headbands tend to stay on better with short hairstyles.
There’s lots on Etsy from veils, to crystals/pearls...whatever your style is!

Oh you're totally good!! I'm returning that jewelry anyway for something different, but similar. I think the dress goes better with gold or rose gold tones so I'm switching it up! And yeah, I'm still on the lookout. I've bought 3 clip like things so far and they've all literally just fallen off my head because I don't have enough hair 😂😂

Lol it’s not just you. I bought some pins that are really heavy and don’t want to stay in my hair either. Maybe it’ll be different once my hair is done and up? Idk 🤷‍♀️😂

Except for trains that are supposed to drag on the ground, standard floor length hem height is 3 inches above the floor. That way, to anyone sitting or standing, looking at a slightly downward angle, it just skims the floor, and the toes of your shoes, without "breaking" the smooth hemline at shoe tops. Anything longer in front, and your skirt will be damaged and possibly torn by you or others standing on it.
It desperately needs a petticoat to spread the bottom of the skirt, and lift it off the ground. Those are inexpensive.

I think you look absolutely stunning in that dress, but I do understand if you feel like it isn’t you. I agree with the pp who suggested a mermaid skirt/slip/petticoat. It can affect the hem, but not necessarily by much, depends on the skirt.
Side note: I love your hair!! Hairspray and bobby-pins can help stubborn hairpieces. I know you said you don’t normally get glammed up, but makeup could also help you feel more special.
If all else fails, check Amazon for other dresses. I know you said you’ve put a lot into this one, but Amazon has some great white dresses that aren’t necessarily wedding dresses but would work great as one and could be something you’re more comfortable in.

Girl for me that's a beautiful dress maybe do a veil that's longer then the dress to make you feel like you have a train? Or maybe alterations.? Besides" it's very nice on you

I think your dress is beautiful! It’s classy and chic. I believe once you wear your Jewelry and get your hair and makeup done everything will come together. Congratulations and I wish you the best.

If it means anything, that dress looks incredible on you! It fits you perfect! I’m sorry it’s not everything you wanted, but you still will look AMAZING that day even if you aren’t able to get what you wanted.
