I don't want wedding photos taken by guests on Social media. Help!

Private User, on August 5, 2013 at 7:36 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 42

I love Social media, but I am also very private. Like many other people out there, I like being in control of what I put out on the Internet. We invited our closest family and friends to the wedding but don't like the idea of people or were not invited (acquaintances) seeing what went on at our wedding (there is a reason they were not invited). Any ideas on how to keep photos off Facebook??? I know I can untag, but that isn't as effective. Thoughts????

Do an unplugged ceremony-- you can Google it, put the info up on your website, on invitations/inserts and have the officiant make an announcement.

Offer your guests an app like wedpic and tell the guests how important it is they only use that site which you control. Or no photos please but some of the best pics come from guests.

You truly can't control it. Te things youcan do are:

1.chNge your Fb setting so you have to approve all tagged pictures and posts

    2. Have a hashtag or use wed pics to keep pictures all in one place.

    3. Have your officiant make a SHORT announcement asking guests to refrain from posting pictures on social media

Ok I am about to make myself a bit unpopular but here goes. Your post comes across as if you are saying that you basically want to rub the people you did not invites face in the fact that they were not granted an invitation. What I read from your post was that your attitude is basically "I did not deem these people worthy of an invitation and therefore they may not be granted the privilege of gazing upon my beauty on what should be the happiest day of my life". Why do you really care if someone posts a picture of you looking beautiful and having a good time? Are you a criminal hiding from the authorities? Are one of you hiding from an abusive ex? Are one or both of you actually a famous celebrity and you are trying to hide from the press? Why would it be so bad if Aunt Sue posts a picture of her nephew and his beautiful bride?

    Make a blackboard sign

    put it on your website

    talk to them

    put it on the invites

have your ushers tell the guests as they are seated

and everything else that everyone posted. I love you. I wish all my couples would go this route.

LMAO....girl I understand completely, I will have an insert in my invitation that says no children, extra guests, and no photos on social media! Point blank period, who cares how it comes off, etc cause its YOUR wedding!

We had it unplugged...specifically asked people to be "present with us" rather than post photos...which worked great! I put up the photos I WANTED without our wedding all over the place.

Uhmm... I didn't read it the way Drakthal did, but anything read can be take in any direction. I get you how you feel so I highly recommend just reiterating:

Alycia - you can set your FB so that anything that you're tagged in does not get posted on your timeline

Celia's posting it EVERYWHERE blackboard, website, invites, etc.

Buffee's unplugged - WW has had a discussion about unplugged ceremonies. I'll go check to see if I can find those posts.

However - you can't STOP anyone from actually posting. People can respect your wishes or not.

I was the SAME way. I really didn't want it up on facebook-I think the approving tags is a great idea and putting up some cute sign saying "if you would like to share our photos, please go to (whatever photo site you create)" hopefully they will get the hint.

HOWEVER-I must say, I am SO happy my guests took pics and put them up because it was so much fun seeing them, especially because we have to wait for the pro pics to come in.

I honestly feel the same way. I'd like to be able to have an online album of photos after the wedding is over that all my guests can view.

I definitely don't want people taking pictures and posting them online! I want to be the first to put anything up!

I would just let them know that photos will be posted post-wedding, and if they choose to take personal photos for themselves, then they can keep them on their phones or cameras until you post yours first.

Well, I kind of feel like no matter what, its going to happen.

So many brides here have had unplugged weddings and guests couldn't resist the temptation to overshare on social media.

We are planning to have a laptop at our wedding that originally will play a slide show of our lives up to this point.......and then the last photo is going to be a page that asks the guests to please upload any digital photos they took prior to leaving so we can "see our wedding" from their view point.......

This way we can see all the pics our guests took and include any we want in our photo albums.

Unplug ceremony and ask your officiate to remind your guests.

Good luck. We are in a social media society, and with the cameras on phones and people wanting pictures of themselves, pictures might happen. What are you going to do if people take and post pictures?

So couples here have had disconnected marriages and guests couldn't stay away to overshare on social networking.

I'm so thankful that most of my fam and friends are newlyweds and they get it! Many of my guests have actually told me to tell people not to post pics! I won't be having that issue.

We had the DJ announce no cell phones pictures and no pictures from the camera either but people still did it. This is a very hard one for everyone to follow. good luck!

More than likely, you won't be able to stop people. You can do an unplugged ceremony, but trying to do the whole thing unplugged would be nearly impossible. When family/friends get together, they want to take pictures. You can ask that people not post to social media BEFORE you, like I wanted to be the first to announce that we got married (but I'd already had congratulations, which was a bit annoying, but eh.) But much beyond that, you are limited in what you can actually control.

Try the unplugged ceremony, but know that more than likely some people will share -- not out of spite, but out of sheer excitement for you or for hanging out with people they like.

Nothing wrong with that, put up a sign to view upon entrance and have officiant make an announcement
