I don't want to spend money on my wedding.

The more and more I think about my wedding the more excited I get. Then bam. I'm hit with reality and remember how many people are suffering in this world and how much better this money would be spent on them. I'm not exactly sure where I'll put the money, but a huge part of me is debating giving all to charity, or an organization that helps people. I would still do the ceremony and a reception, but spend wayyy less. And obviously my guests wouldn't get the golden experience. I would do an open bar, but for food id just do snacks and desserts. And doing plasticware to eat with. Am I bring crazy? Or do i have a point. ETA: id be spending 3-4 thousand less from an 8000 budget

Passed apps are fine as long as the celebration isn't during a meal time.

(Also a great organization that needs the donations is Planned Parenthood)

ETA: but always use a caterer

Another idea would be cutting the guest list and still serving a full meal.

If you don't want to properly host a wedding (dinner) that's fine. Then you should just do a courthouse wedding with maybe parents and siblings and take them all to dinner afterwards.

Then do a courthouse wedding and donate the rest of the money.

I agree with FlyingNow, planner parenthood is an amazing organization that could use the support!

My reception is 8-12 and everyone would eat before. It's all family, my mom is cooking for them. And the wedding parties are eating pizza before the ceremony.

I also would do my own hair and makeup. I don't wear nail polish, and I'm going to get a used dress.

I'm thinking maybe an organization for battered homeless women or homeless veterans. I'm trying to find somewhere to volunteer and that's probably where my money would go.

You can do both! Make the guest list small and do a buffet dinner like BBQ. Their are a lot of great charities out there. Ian Somerhalder Foundation, Always Keep Fighting, SemiColon Project, Etc

I'm a big supporter of mental health awareness charities. What charities would you like to donate to?

    Best of luck!

You know, offering to give some of you wedding budget to charity is great but still not a good reason to be cheap.

Cut the guest list or courthouse wedding it is.

You need a caterer. Also, why ask if you just want validation?

I am Catholic so the ceremony is important. And just my family is 53 guests. That's immediate family. So i want to treat them.

It's not that I want to be cheap. I just feel wrong spending so much on a party when there is so much pain.

I'm with Planned Parenthood and all the mental health charities, as well.

You still have to properly host those 53 people.

    Then skip the party?

I like your idea! Snacks/apps and drinks is what I'd probably be doing from 8-12 anyway!! And those are great causes to give to!

@izziJones The bbq sounds great! I think I could do that. Or maybe pastas!? Like a few different kinds?

I agree! Do a courthouse wedding and just donate the money you would have spent on an actual wedding. Otherwise, stop being frugal, it's a wedding not a Chinese auction.

@flyingnow is it wrong to have a wedding and no reception?

Make sure you make it abundantly clear on the invitations that guests need to eat dinner before they come. Some would still expect dinner at a 4 hour-long evening affair with an open bar.
