$290 For heming, a six point bustle, and taking in the lacy sleeve bit.

$400 to have the shoulders shortened, about a 5" hem, bustle, and taken in about 2 sizes.

ETA this was on a $2,200 gown in the SF Bay Area

My dress was $380 and I paid $165 by a local seamstress to get a 5 point bustle, a small tuck, and my veil converted from velcro to comb.

So most likely the less you spent on a dress (be a sample or off the internet) you will probably spend more on alterations. My straps were shortened, darts added to chest area and corset bra sewn in-also with a decent bustle, it was only $256.00.. I thought it would be more. My sister spent 100.00 on a wedding dress and spent a fortune on alterations. Like a 400.00 fortune.

@Renee I'm not sure why you concluded that. The alterations are based off of where you have it done (bridal shop/nonbridal shop), how many sizes off your dress was, your city, and what you want to get done.

My dress was a $99 David's Bridal sale dress, my alterations were less than $40. I went to a seamstress who works out of her home instead of DB, got exactly what I wanted and saved a ton, plus I got to support a small business owner. It pays to shop around!

    190. But all I needed was a hem, bustle & shortened straps. I also had a $100 credit.

$344. Hem, shoulder, waist and bustle. I was going to forego the waist to save money. But when you spend that much on it, it seems like a waste to not have it absolutely perfect. As a side note I loved it. And then she pinned it and I LOVED it.

Less than 100$ for taking it in, hemming, adding cups, and a bustle.

Well mine has to be taken in literally 4 sizes, sleeves removed, and the entire thing reconstructed; it was a sample sale. It's coming out to around $520 but I'm totally ok with that since my dress was only $209.

    Eta- I'm in Atlanta

Future step daughter bought a big old expensive prom dress from a bridal/dress shop. Alterations were $100 and done in 3 weeks at peak prom time. It was petticoat/tulle layers under, satin top, A line. Beaded sheer top high neck.

She had to have it shortened by 12" and taken in at top/chest/waist and around the neck.

So there was details and alterations all over. Still only $100 and fast.

If I don't buy my dress there I'll go for good fast cheap alterations.

I got mine done at a little boutique. For 3 inches taken off the bottom, it taken in 2 inches, and a bustle for $40 and a free pair of earrings. She said she used to work for David's Bridal but quit because they forced her to charge so much for little alterations. She is amazing!

$300 to take the shoulders in, waist in, bustle, and hem. My dress has a pretty intricate lace overlay with a border hemline so I know that part alone will be pretty difficult. I never even considered taking it to a bridal shop. We brought it to our trusted tailor of many years. She's from "the old country" aka the Azores and does fabulous work.

$210 if it needs hemmed, $90 if it doesn't because that would just be a bustle and my belt sewn in. (the uncertainty of price is me being an idiot and accidentally grabbing the wrong shoes to take to my first appt.)
