How much for your alterations?

Aury, on July 20, 2017 at 2:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 125

So I got my wedding dress form Bridal Refelction and it was over my budget then I found out that the alterations were not included and now I have to pay $615 just for alterations which I think is too much I'm thinking not having a bustle because just for that is $165 dollars

How much are you girls paying for your alterations and what would you recommend me to do, because the dress with alterations is costing almost $3,000 ugh!!

After the whole AA fiasco, I ended up using one of the alternations professionals they used to have on staff and ended up at $320. I'll agree that bustles can get costly, mine was $120 by itself. Depending on the type you get, see if there is another kind of bustle that may work with your dress. If its simpler it could be somewhat cheaper.

    Good luck!

$300 on a dress I bought on sale for $384. Did not expect that.

$400 to shorten the hem and to take the sides in. I also had lace and crystals on my dress which made it more costly.

Mine was 299- hem (although most layers were tulle besides slip of the dress), a 3 point bustle (again tulle so it may be a bit easier as it doesn't need to be as exact), and cups to make my ta-tas look great! I went to a formalwear tailor and not through a bridal shop. She ran her own alterations shop.

    Mine was $625

I would NOT get rid of the bustle. People WILL step on the train if you don't have one. I had about 20 people step on mine before MIL helped bustle my dress.

I would definitely go somewhere else for second opinions. Depending on what you need done, I think you could find somewhere cheaper.

$700 for everything, and there were a lot of alterations, because i bought it off the rack, and includes the dress cleaning and pressed.

I live very close to you. Before agreeing to the flat fee alterations at BR, go see Gus at Gus and Sofia Tailors in Lynbrook (on Atlantic off Sunrise Highway). He does tons of gown alterations for weddings, proms etc. He's been a tailor all his life. I brought my wedding gown to him (it's not a traditional bridal gown but it is a ball gown with a slight train) and he did some extensive alterations for me. They were $120.

ETA: Are you using Frasada for hair? (I used to work there...)

$350 to have 15 inches taken off the train, an elaborate bustle, hemming, shortening of straps, lengthening of belt, cups and extra lace put in, and cleaning/press. IDK how. This woman is magic too.

    My alterations were $140.

I skipped the bridal store but took it to the shop that hems my slacks and other dresses because they have a bridal specialist.

For $140 - the dress was hemmed and taken in, cups were sewn in. I also had a string that tied the back of my dress together and I hated it so I had that taken out and put a clasp in instead.

$350 to tack a hairpiece on as a belt, take the sleeves/top in considerably, sew bra cups in, and chop a little sweep train so it's all one length.

$700 for mine. My dress was a sample and I got it 50% off so I'm not that upset about it, but alterations are definitely more expensive than I thought when we first started planning.

Mine came out to be 198; hemmed, bustled, taken in at the ribcage, sash attached and sweetheart neckline created. The lady I go to often use to be a DB seamstress and has been on her own for years now.

My alterations came to under $250 and that includes a gem, a shoulder hem, cups, and my bustle. I recommend you find a new seamstress
