How much do you typically gift for bridal shower?

Gina, on May 26, 2015 at 7:47 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 50

Hey girls, I'm going to a cash-back bridal shower and was wondering how much to give. This is a friend of my fiancées cousin and his family, but I have no relationship/friendship with her and neither does my fiancé. She is having a jack and Jill at a VFW so was just wondering what's appropriate.

What's a cash-back bridal shower? You take a gift and she returns it for money? What's the point in giving a gift instead of cash?

Zero. Bridal showers are for physical gifts. I would not attend a "cash back" shower, whatever the fuck that even means.

Zero. I give presents. I usually give $100 worth of stuff for a shower. The way I was raised, you give at either the shower or the wedding, and if I'm invited to the shower, I give there. If not, I give the $100 worth of stuff at the wedding. I'm not from a cash-giving area.

There are some brides that literally have everything they could want (ex. bride that already lives with her groom in their house) and so a registry just doesn't make sense. I would give the exact amount of money you would have otherwise spent on a gift. I'd think $100 is more than enough.

There are a LOT of brides who already have what they want. I still wouldn't give cash. But that's just me. A money shower is weird.

I would give nothing to someone you have no relationship with who is having an event that sounds tacky as all hell (what even is a cash back shower).

If a bride doesn't need anything, she should decline a shower. Showers are for physical gifts.

I'd decline. Again, I find it weird.

I wouldn't go and I wouldn't gift. The fact that the 'theme' has a name is even grosser.

Trust me, I wish I could but I'd never get out of that one since she's been a friend of his family for a long time.

So she's not registered anywhere? She's just having a shower so people could give her cash? That seems rude. I always give a gift at the shower (about ~$100), cash is for the wedding present.

Lol yes, she has no registry. My fiancée cousin told me they tried talking her out of it, but she doesn't care lol

What is VFW? And that's super tacky...but hey, won't be the first one.

And why are you going if you don't even know them?

I typically give between 50-100$ But that's when I know and care about the person.

Seriously. Don't go. Get sick. That's just greedy. I hate to be judgmental, but it's such a rude concept.
