How much do you typically gift for bridal shower?

hey girls, I'm going to a cash-back bridal shower and was wondering how much to give. This is a friend of my fiancées cousin and his family, but I have no relationship/friendship with her and neither does my fiancé. She is having a jack and Jill at a VFW so was just wondering what's appropriate.

Greenback wedding shower? She had nothing and still lives with parents? I hate to be rude but I have to say that this person is doing it all wrong. If she's getting married sh should be registered somewhere. Unless she's going to stay with parents even after marriage, which makes no logical sense at all. FH and I live together and we're still registering places because it's just rude to ask for cash. And what would I give? A decline.

I would say give nothing. If you have no relationship with this girl, why did she invite you to her party? I'm not sure how I feel about this "cash back " concept, but honestly it just sounds like she's being greedy.

This is seriously the worst thing ever! It's even worse that you're invited but don't even know her...gift grab much? Do your in-laws not think this is rude??

That is so tasteless... For someone I didn't know well but felt obligated, I would get a gift worth $50. But I would use one of BBBs magical never-really-expired coupons, so take 20% off that and bam, you have a $50 gift for $40. So $40 seems reasonable. OMG! YOU SHOULD GIVE HER $40 AND A BBB COUPON! Does loving that idea make me a terrible person?

Buy her something you want to give her. She doesn't like it? Too bad! Should have made a registry and not been tacky as hell!

You shouldn't feel obligated to go to a shower for someone you don't even know and give a cash gift. That's just tacky. I wouldn't go nor would I give a gift to someone like that.

I think it's very odd to only give at the shower or at the wedding. I usually do something small at the shower, $25 gift, and then cash to at least cover my plate at the wedding.

$100 for a bride neither of you know is a lot in my opinion. I'd do $30, I think that's plenty. $100 for a wedding but not a stranger's shower.

Lol.. wow. Some people really just don't care. My fiance and I live together and have pretty much two households crammed into one, we still wouldn't ASK for cash. We made a small registry regardless of fun stuff and stuff we've always wanted but would never buy for ourselves. That way people at least have a choice if they want to give us something.

I'd get her a gift from the clearance aisle, preferably green in color like Celia's green frog idea...
