How much did you spend?

Susana A, on September 15, 2016 at 10:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 104

Hi guys , I was curious how much did you guys spend on your wedding all total?

I know it's a weird question, but I need help.

Since mother in law threatened us she won't come to our wedding, she said the only way she will be there is if we do the wedding here in New York

Our plan was to do our wedding in Armenia, but mother in law isn't happy about that so we decided to do it here in New York. Smiley sad

I'm in TN. I think we'll end up around $16k-$17k not including honeymoon for 100 guests. Do what you can afford.

Just under $10,000. And that included a) a ceremony and reception in the Boston area, plus a second reception back home in DC, and b) paying for accommodations for all our guests in Massachusetts.

But there is huge variation in people's budgets. The biggest factors in cost are a) how many guests, and b) what food and drink you are serving them.

Us telling you our budget isn't going to help you. We are from all over with different budgets. Figure out how much you and FH can realistically save every month until roughly the date you want to get married.

@gymrat it actually helps , I want to show these comments to my FH so he believes me that doing wedding here is really expensive and not easy at all.

Idk why he wouldn't believe me, but that's ok these comments are helping me.

    Thank you guys <3

@Susana New York/the northeast in general is an expensive area. I'm trying to do the cheapest wedding I can in NJ and it'll be around $16k

    @2d

    How big is your wedding?

That budget does not sound possible/really impressive for a Boston area wedding especially if you're paying for everyone's accommodations. I'm also getting married in the Boston area and from the DC area.

I'm just concerned you may not be properly hosting your guests. My FSIL had a 10,000 wedding 40 minute outside of the city and she even had a hard time doing that and that's just for ceremony and reception.

Boston is known to be one of the most expensive cities to get married in.

How are you doing all that for that budget?

ETA: don't mean to come off wrong or mean. I'm just shocked with everything you said that budget includes...

Well my reception venue is free so that helps. It's on the farm I grew up on. My dad just build a brand new barn. The church is only $150 and a family friend owns a BBQ catering company and they're going to do my wedding for six bucks a plate. Ya ya I know. You all hate frenders but he offered and it's all local meat he uses from his own farm. I buy all my burgers and bacon from this family all the time.

@Susana - how many people, and what part of NY?

The state is HUGE - and the value of a dollar is very different in different parts of the state.

Start calling venders. They will tell you what the fee is to rent the rooms. I live around Cleveland Ohio and and they ranged from $1500-$300 for the reception
