How Much Did You Pay for Your Wedding Cake?

Shannon, on November 13, 2015 at 2:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 50

Hi Ladies and happy Friday!

I'm curious to know how much everyone has paid/budgeted for their wedding cake? As I've mentioned on here before, I have a slight cake obsession (literally, it was one of my first words) so I do want a beautiful wedding cake. However, I've gotten the quote back & she is asking for $700.00 (4 tiers). This includes delivery, but is this normal? Things are adding up & I'd love to hear some feedback before I sign her quote! ? Smiley smile

That sounds pretty normal. I'm in an inexpensive area and with a fairly simple, 3 tier cake, it's $2.50/serving. Definitely read reviews and gather some quotes before you make a decision.

My cake was...pricey.. $1250 for 3 tiers, including delivery etc. But it was stunning (that's all buttercream, no fondant) and it tasted fantastic. It really depends one what you want, and where you wanna spend.

Mine is costing $120 for three 9" cakes. But, my baker is a friend with a home business, and she's not charging for delivery or time. I had checked with other bakeries, and in my area it averages about $450 for a three tiered cake.

Sounds like a steal compared to my area! It's $1150 for a three-tiered cake with delivery, not including flowers or topper. On top of that the venue charges $2/person for cake cutting fee.

If your venue has a cake cutting fee, consider that in the price as well.

Alot of the price will depend on how intricately you want the cake decorated and if they'll use fondant or buttercream. The size of the tiers will make a difference too because it will normally be priced per slice or how many the cake will feed, not solely on # of tiers. We're doing a 5 tier cake to feed about 200, I think a tad more, with 2 of the tiers having moderately intricate details and the other 3 tiers a little more simple. The entire cake will be the same flavor and filling (note that some will charge extra for multiple flavors) and all icing and piping is buttercream...no fondant. We're paying around $1200 for it. This does not include any cake stand rental, topper or delivery...we are renting the stand somewhere else, purchased a custom topper separately and they said there was no delivery charge, though I assume it's built into their per slice charge somewhere Smiley smile

OMG @Christine I LOOOOOVE your cake! That is beautiful, and so impressive that they did that will all buttercream! I'm obsessed with fancy wedding cakes. OBSESSED. Ours is estimated around $1,600 for four tiers, fondant covered with custom design (top secret for now!), and includes a certain number of slices supplemented through kitchen cakes. Our venue will charge $2/person for cake cutting since we're not using their preferred vendor. But I had done my research beforehand so I knew that for what I wanted I could end up spending $2,000 for a cake, and budgeted accordingly. Because CAKE!

Luckily my venue includes the cake so I have no idea what the pricing would be but I know they are very expensive!

I haven't ordered our cake yet, but I was quoted between $550-$650 for a three tier cake for about 100 guests. That does not include the delivery fee, which is waived because we are using our venue's recommended bakery. ETA: I totally understand the cake obsession. I'm almost as excited for cake tasting as I was to go dress shopping. Lol!

The main problem, aside from the cost, is that I can only choose ONE. (but I love so many). I had the BEST idea for a groom's cake, but she wanted an additional $330 for it, so it's been nixed. Smiley sad

We bought ours from a local bakery that was ran by a mother / daughter duo and it was not only extremly affordable ($150) but it was the best cake we had ever had!! It was enough to feed 50 people. See if you can find a local mom and pop shop bakery. They may not have the money to advertise like the bigger bakeries but boy, the quality that I have seen at most mom and pop shops/restaurants are AMAZING!! The cake was so light and fresh and beautiful!!

@Summer that's true thanks for pointing out, maybe I can scale down the size of the tiers...

Luckily my venue provides cake cutting. I just have commitment phobia to picking 1 design & hoping she'll let me change it & make my final decision when we come in for a tasting! LOL @minnemiska "Because CAKE" exactly!!

We paid $300, which is a steal. The baker runs an annual wedding cake sale so I was able to reserve the cake during the deal and also grooms cake!

Our wedding cake is 4 tiers for about 110 guests. Since we were the first to sign a contract for our date, the gold cake stand rental was free and free delivery to our venue. All 4 tiers are currently different flavors but I think I'm going to change it to only 1 or 2 flavors and each tier is decorated differently in buttercream. All for $540. Our guest count has since gone up so that number will go up a little bit as well. She also quoted me $150 for my groomscake idea.

Haha, thanks Shannon and minnemiska. Shannon, the cost sucks, but if the style matters it'll be worth it.
