How much did you pay for a photographer?

Katelin, on July 9, 2012 at 7:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 65

A friend from my college in majoring in photography and she has done pictures for quite a few weddings. I have seen her pictures and they look great! I talked to her about photographing my wedding and she said she would give me the 'friend price' of $800 which includes pics before the ceremony, after ceremony, dinner/reception, and up to the dances. Then she will give me a disk and help me with choosing print. This seems like a great price to me, but I'm not sure what the average is. I'm also not sure what additional cost to expect for the prints.

$1500. For 2 hours. All the photos & rights. As many discs as I want.

It really depends what you are getting. It sounds like a good deal but I would have to see more.

The photographers I called around to were starting at $2000. For 2 photographers and the CD afterwards. Prints are additional.

The venue I really want includes photos..... 300 minimum on a CD at the end of the night, so we are having a family friend do the ceremony shots, and some specific shots I want, for the cost of her room and board ($150).

$3200. This includes e-pics, a second shooter, unlimited coverage on wedding day start-to-finish (we kept them busy for like 14 hours), a hosted web gallery for one year, and a CD of edited print-resolution and web-resolution images with full immediate printing rights for personal use.

Our photographer was worth every penny. I loved her and our photos came out great. We ended up with over 800 beautifully edited shots of the day. I can't wait to make our album. Smiley smile

$3000 here..for 8hrs. Includes engagement photos (which we haven't taken yet since he is in Germany for 2 mos on a shoot) CD, etc. Everything. There are many I'm sure equally as good for less...but it is what it is here in California. Besides that, he's ranked one of the top in the world..so if that's true, then $3K is a bargain. Yeah..lets go with that Smiley smile

$600 because its her first "professional" wedding. Shes done plenty, but not under her business name. This is unlimited time, two photographers, e-pics and full disk with edited/unedited pics with all rights to print.

I say if you like her work, $800 is a very good deal, but where shes still a student, I would ask for more time, or an e-pic session to be included. Shes not a professional yet so her price seems a bit steep to me. Just for that reason.

$4100 but that included a lot - e-pics, guestbook with e-pics, 9 hours on wedding day, one photographer plus assistant, CD of pics, 100 thank you cards, 1 hardcover photobook and 2 parent books.

We are paying 900 and that is for two photographers and 5 hours. We are going through a company that knocked off money when we went with a certain tux shop and we won the second photographer. We are getting a deal because the

Average seemed to start at 1400

$1100 for 7 hours of coverage which includes getting ready, first look, ceremony, formals, reception and post-reception. We're getting digital files to print our own and web-hosting.

I personally do not recommend friends, family, or anyone with little experience to shoot your wedding. Photos are one of the very few tangible things you will have from the wedding. I'd cut budget from cake and flowers for a good pro photographer.

You wouldn't hire someone in law school to represent you in court would you?

    Just my opinion, of course.

I shopped around a TON to find an affordable photographer in our area(Nashville) that has a good portfolio. Wedding photography is just do expensive....with it being the most important part of our day in my eyes we are spending the most money on that. We are paying around $1,800 and we will get a full 8 hours, 2 photographers, a cd of all the images and the print release so we can print our own photos. We are going through the same place to get an additional photographer for our photo booth we made...it'll cost about $300 extra for that. Best deal I could find.

Wedding photography is one of the most important things. Our entire wedding budget is around $8000. We just couldnt skimp on that based on all the reviews we had gotten about inexperienced photographers on the most important day of their lives.

    Good Luck

We are paying $6450. That includes all day photography, 2 photographers, 1 assistant, epics, full day coverage, 2 parent albums, rights to the pics, them on disc and in a picture box. I think that's it.

Our photos were included in our officiant package (husband & wife officiant team, he also does photography). However, I do wish that we had splurged on a different, or additional photographer.

Remember if you do decide to book a friend or family member for any service, you should still sign a contract to help avoid miscommunication or bad feelings down the road.

And I agree with Amy - for her inexperience and the short amount of time you're getting, I think her price is too high. We considered a very experienced pro photographer in Chicago who charged $1500 for all day coverage and an e-pic session.

Do not hire a family member or a friend. There is more than your wedding photography at stake; there is a relationship in the balance.

The photogs I recommend in NJ run from ****.
