How much did you pay for a photographer?

A friend from my college in majoring in photography and she has done pictures for quite a few weddings. I have seen her pictures and they look great! I talked to her about photographing my wedding and she said she would give me the 'friend price' of $800 which includes pics before the ceremony, after ceremony, dinner/reception, and up to the dances. Then she will give me a disk and help me with choosing print. This seems like a great price to me, but I'm not sure what the average is. I'm also not sure what additional cost to expect for the prints.

We are paying $2400 which is a fantastic price for the work this photographer does. Included in the price is 8 hr coverage, epic session, CD digital files, online viewing/hosting of all images, and photo album.

$800 is a great price, for that you should get a minimum 6 hrs of coverage. On Average most couples pay $1500 for photography. I would just make sure that she is good at guiding and directing people where to go and stand as well, with a wedding it can be difficult to maintain control.

Mine was $700 for before the wedding through the first half of the reception. Love Love Love her work! We got the discs and full rights to print. Somebody starting out often will give you lower prices but not necessarily be lower quality. If you trust her, have seen her work, and have seen/heard good reviews, go for it. You're doing her a favor by helping her build her portfolio as she's doing you the favor of lowering the cost.

$750 and she is amazing and comes with a second shooter! They are both great with lighting too. It includes 5 hours of shooting time, cd with all the rights, some prints. I feel like there is way more but I can't think right now. Lol

$2300 and its worth every penny imo. Photos are the absolute most important thing to me. I would never trust someone who hasn't done at least a hundred weddings.

For that price we are getting a husband and wife team for unlimited hours the day of, a TTD shoot (since we already had e-pics) and all the pics on cd with print releases. They also host a website with the top pics that our guests can download and print themselves.

Totally agree with Donna R. and Jennifer M. in that your photos are the most important things because they are the only things you will have left for the rest of your life to enjoy from your wedding. So wherever you are located and whatever your budget is for your wedding, look for the best photographer your budget can afford!

Cheap wedding photographer is not the same as having low budget and getting the best possible photographer to fit whatever package into that lbudget.

I am a wedding photographer and have brides who can only afford to pay $400 for their wedding coverage and I also have brides who pay over $10,000. The picture quality will be the same! The length of time covered and the number of pictures will be different and album is not included in the budget one.

If you love her work then go for it...it's a great price. I agree with the above though, definitely get a contract. She may be a friend but she becomes a vendor and vendors need contracts.

    We're paying a little less than $2k

If you like her photography style, go for it. Photographers are expensive. Around here the cheapest one that I found was $800 for 6 hours and they own your photos, so you have to order everything from them, and their photos are pricy. the one that we are going with is $1495 but has a $150 discount since they are do more than one service (DJ, photo, and video) We are booking DJ through one of their other franchises, and may book video, still debating that. It's 8 hours and we have three photographers to choose from, and WE own the photos at the end, so we can go through their site for our album or we can go elsewhere.

My photographer is $1100 and he is going to be there an hour before the wedding and up to 10pm or until the last thing is done. Which may be a little after 10pm and already cleared it with him. Also he is giving me a hard covered book and a disk with all rights to all my photos so I can just print off whichever ones I want.

$2800 including 6 hours, a disk with all the pictures, another disc with all the pics in black and white, an online album to send out to my guests, and a second shooter. We looked for awhile and this was the best price we could get for the quality we were looking for.

So many others STARTED at $3000 and didn't even include your own copy of photos! Explain that!
