How Many Venues Should You Visit in a Day?

edecker, on March 7, 2018 at 12:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 68

I know that all things planning can get very exhausting if you try and pack too much in at once. You shouldn't make 8 dress appointments in one day, you shouldn't meet 10 photographers in a day, I know there is a balance. When it comes to venues, how many would you suggest visiting in a day? We thought we knew our venue, but the photographer I met with and love suggested some better, and cheaper options. We need to start booking soon so I am trying to fill my weekends with tours but don't want to overdo it!

We did 5 venues in a weekend and that was a good number for us. We scheduled 3 that were close to each other for Saturday, and the other 2 for Sunday. We also gave ourselves an hour and a half to two hours between appointments so we would not be rushed, and if we had extra time we could grab coffee. After 5 hours we were kind of tired but not burnt out, and we could automatically cross some venues off our list because others impressed us more.

I went on four tours in one day when I picked my venue. It was doable, but I definitely felt overwhelmed with information by the time I got home.

If I hadn't chose my venue that day and needed to tour more, I probably wouldn't do four in one day again. I would keep it to just three or two.

I think it depends on the location of your venues and how much energy you have. I toured three in one day and another one on a separate day. The first two venues were a block from each other and the third was maybe 6 blocks or so from the first two. The fourth venue I looked at was in a different city, about 45 minutes from the first one. I wouldn't have wanted to do that one on the same day as the others.

I did 4 in a weekend (3 and 1) and it wasn’t too bad. It was easy to compare them. The following Saturday I saw 2 more. I think it depends on how far each of the venues are from one another.

I think that 2-3 seems to be the consensus so far, but I am more worried about being overloaded with information like you said. do you have any suggestions on how to keep it separate and organized?

Seeing too many at once I couldn't remember one venue from another in terms of details, pricing, layout, inclusions. I'd leave it at like 4 a weekend or something. We did 3 in one day, but they were all the same parent company and in the city. Even that I couldn't keep certain details separated.

Why should you limit yourself to 2-3 a day? The skies the limit! See if you can knock out 10-15! Bring a notebook, pens, and different color highlighters to keep yourself organized. Don't be afraid to take notes! Get ready for each meeting by asking the venue to send you info beforehand so you can be ready with questions!

Bonus points if you and FH wear clothes matching your wedding colors! Best way to make sure the venue will match your vision!

I brought a small notebook with me. When I asked questions, I wrote down the answers in that notebook. If I noticed something while I was there (ex. loud street nearby that I could hear inside), I made notes so I wouldn't forget them later. I also had a manilla folder with me so I could place any papers they gave me in there. I paperclipped the papers that each venue gave me as soon as I got in my car so they wouldn't get mixed together with other venue papers.

When I had lunch, I made a pros and cons list of the two venues I toured that morning. I did the same with the two I toured that afternoon as soon as I got home. That way all the information would still be fresh.

My mom and I toured 7 venues in one day and then picked the top 3 which we went back to with DH and the in laws. Both sets of parents were contributing to the wedding so we wanted everyone to have a chance to check them out and give their opinions.

I think the clothes suggestion is awesome! I have a specific white hoodie I wear to wedding meet and greets that has brought me good luck so far, but I will opt for white and pink!

I have a binder, spiral notebook, and folder, as well as a pencil pouch with markers, pens, pencils, and highlighters so I come prepared! I also have been asking for information so I can organize ahead of time like you suggested.

All that being said, I don't think my brain could handle 10-15! Maybe 5, but I get overwhelmed with a ton of information, even when its organized!

I noticed your profile says your wedding date in May 2019 - are you set on that date or is that just a placeholder? Timing is everything when looking at venues.

Great suggestion! My FH is working weird hours (4pm-2am 7 days a week) so I will probably tour alone or with a pal, and revisit the top few. Thanks for Sharing!

We did no more than two in a day to not overload ourselves. Four in one weekend total but most of the venues we were looking at were spread out. I wouldn’t tour any venue my FH couldn’t or didn’t want to go to as well.

How many venues does your FH want to visit?? Did you you show him the options yet?

We did 4 in one day on our first outing and ended up choosing one of the ones we saw. looked at maybe 2 more individually on other days. i preferred doing as many as possible on one day personally, so i didn't have to blow too many weekends on the planning process!

Make sure you bring in swatches if your color scheme too. That cannot be changed so you have to make sure it matches your venue if your honey agrees on it

Exactly! I picked that date, and then adjusted it a little, and am now looking at May 2019 as a whole because of some holiday and budget restrictions. I will be looking tonight/tomorrow with FH closely at dates again.

I plan on getting information organized before presenting the options to him tonight/tomorrow. He has been working weird hours with his new job (4pm-2am 7 days a week) so it will be hard finding time to go together. I was going to take a PP's suggestion of going alone or with a pal to figure out which ones are good, and then going together to the top few. I have about 12 total I am looking at, but wont tour ones I don't think are worth even touring. I need to get more details together first.
