How many registries is too many?

*~WiiFeY~*, on October 22, 2010 at 12:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 35

I've registered at Target and Bed Bath and Beyond. I also did Crate & Barrel online.. We don't have one within hours of us, but a lot of FS's family likes to do their shopping online, and a lot of my OOT guests live near one. I wanted to add one more store (still deciding on which one) but I feel like 4 registries is pushing it.. What do you think? How many is TOO many?

I think two is good, but you can always go to www.myregistry.com and combine them all into one.

I've never heard of myregistry.com, good call on that one! Thanks. I've always thought that 2 was plenty but with this site it gives you more options, very cool idea

It honestly depends on how much you have on each. I think I saw someone had registered at 4 places, but had like 20-30 things per store, I'd be ok- I know one store can't sell everything! But if all 4 have 100 things, I'd sit there thinking, that's past trying to offer convinience and is just greedy. That's my take on it

I have 3 Target, JC Penny and Amazon.com, Amazon has everything lol, so if it wasn't on our other registries it's on Amazon. We also only have 20 something on each one, so it's not a huge amount of stuff.

4 does seem like its pushing it, unles you clearly add it for specific stuff (like its a speciality store)

We have myregistry.com too so that is the suggestion I can offer you. We have our macys, target, ikea, and gaiam items all on there and a few local stores that didn't offer registry services so this worked out for us. What stores are you looking to include?

I think 3 is a bit much. 2 is sufficient. But Myregistry.com is 1 registry...

I think after 3 is somewhat pushing it! :-)

I've heard it depends on how many guests you have. We only had 2 but we didn't have any online shoppers in our family. There is a Crate & Barrel near us but our family doesn't shop there. We ended up doing just Bed Bath & Beyond & Target. Both are online, as well. If you have a lot of duplicate stuff, I'd suggest just creating two.

I have myregistry! I love it. I have the app for my phone too, when you go to the stores you can scan things with the app you want and it will add them to your registry.

I think 2 is the norm, 3 at the most..but its understandable if you really want some items from various stores. I don't think any guests would put up a stink about it, if so boo on them! :-) Also seems you have a great reason for adding the crate and barrel one.

We've got three: Target, Macy's, and Bed Bath and Beyond. I just made sure not to repeat items. It got a bit trickey though.

Hehe, I knew a bride that was registered at at least 5 places and stuffed those registry cards for all 5 into her invitations. I think those cards are kind of tacky but understandable but 5? Come on! And she had hundreds of items on all of them including $300 sets of wine glasses(and she wanted 2) and a $2700 bedroom set!

Well, it depends on how many people you're inviting and how many invitations you're sending out. You want to give guests price varieties. Are you doing registries for the wedding only or for showers and engagement parties as well? Its all relative to what your plans are.

For instance, we have 350 guests coming but only around 130-150 invitations (I haven't figured out that part yet) but I know we're having an engagement party sometime next year because my mom was excited and couldn't keep the secret. At least two of the four registries on my website will be included in that invitation.

Then there's the fact that we're spending all this money on the wedding and would like to continue to save money for future items we'll still need. Hence the bedroom set Julie saw on the bride's registry. Some places such as Pottery Barn and Macy's continue to give the bride/groom a 10% discount on things they didn't receive for up to 90 days after the wedding. This comes in very handy for big ticket items if the couple doesn't currently live together. We have a fifth registry at Pottery Barn for this very reason but I'm not advertising it to anyone. The only people who will know as of right now are FH & I and his parents as their wedding present to us will be a bed/bedroom set from what FMIL told us.

We have 4 registries (Travelersjoy, Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Macys). I don't think it matters. I think guests appreciate the variety. But again, it doesn't matter. Just don't put the info on the invitation.

    I have a question about myregistry.com

Are you still able to go the store, like walmart, and add some items with the scanny thing if you are using myregistry.com? Walmart has a few items that are not listed online and I also have some older guests that probably dont even have the internet.
