How important is a cake/cutting to you?

BecomingBailey, on May 12, 2016 at 9:34 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 62

As a bride? As a guest, do you expect to see the couple cutting the cake? We aren't having cake (we're having donuts, the only cake we like is funfetti) and therefore not cutting a cake. My brother, of all people, was outraged that we aren't cutting a cake. In all honest I just saw it as one more thing to take up precious partying time. Now I'm second guessing it. Am I going to regret not taking the traditional route on this one?

A lot of people like it for the photo op, but I've been to weddings where it wasn't done. I don't think I'd ever look back at my wedding and say "Darn, I sure wish I'd done the cake cutting!"

We aren't cutting the cake, we are having cupcakes and people got a little upset and asked us to "cut the cupcake" but we decided to do the thing where we link arms and feed each other the cupcake, that made people happy! Maybe you can think of a alternative? I honestly don't see the point in cutting the cake, but we aren't traditional peopleSmiley smile

There has only been one wedding cake that I thought was amazing. Most of it is meh to me too. I think having the doughnuts is fine!

As a bride, I wanted the tradition of the cake cutting moment (and the pictures) but mostly I just love cake, and I really wanted a big traditional tiered wedding cake. As a guest, I could care less if I see the cake cutting, I just want a piece ASAP Smiley smile I think if you don't feel like you need to do it, then you probably won't miss it. In response to it taking up party time...ours really didn't. It was a few minutes at most. We made two slices, put it on a plate, each took a bite and then posed for a few pics. It was not time consuming at all.

Maybe we'll cut a donut if I get a wild hair!

We're cutting the cake. It's just a fun thing that we decided we want to do. It shouldn't cause that much upset in others not to though....kinda strange. It's your wedding and if you and FH are happy to skip it, then skip it!

The last two weddings I went to didn't have a cake cutting, I still got dessert at both of them though so I didn't care. We're doing it because dinner and dancing are in separate rooms and they bring everyone out to the dance room for the cake cutting right after dinner so it's a way to get everyone out there. Plus it's probably the only opportunity I'll have to eat the cake and I love cake.

We were going to skip it, but then when I mentioned it to my Dad, he looked really sad we were going to skip that tradition. We're doing a dessert table, but we also found an amazing cupcake bakery and found the perfect cupcake to cut. I'm already going through this all without my Mom, so I figured we could make the small change for my Dad. (My FH is a weirdo who doesn't like dessert--I'm the complete opposite, so in a way I get what I want, too Smiley smile)

Not something I care about either (we're planning on doing a sundae bar). The only thing I've ever noticed as a guest regarding cake was one wedding where they gave everyone a slice and basically no one ate it ... felt like such a waste.

Siblings can be funny like that. My sister was SHOCKED that I wasn't planning on wearing a veil. She's younger and hasn't been to many weddings so I think there are a lot of things she just expected from pop culture and whatnot that we aren't doing. It made me doubt myself too, but I then I remembered why I decided to do just a hair piece and she totally came around. Just needed some time to adjust.

We have a dessert table spread, no cake.

    I'm not concerned about it.

I only have a cake because it was included with the venue. If we didn't have a cake cutting I wouldn't have cared.

I don't think its something anyone will miss. I am cutting cake because my fiancé and I love food so anything event involving it, we are down for!

We're not having a cake at all. It was the least-important thing on our list so we nixed it. Rather put the money towards something else!

We're planning to cut the cake for pics, but won't be announcing for an audience. Hoping people will continue to party while we do the traditional stuff. I really don't want the attention.

We had a pastry buffet and had a top cake to cut. In all honesty, I could have done without it. No one ate that cake, and it was over in 30 seconds.

I just like eating the cake.

I also like donuts, macaroons, smores, & candy.

Basically give me something sweet and I'm a happy camper.

We have a wedding cake but I don't plan on making a big deal of cutting it.
