How important is a cake/cutting to you?

As a bride? As a guest, do you expect to see the couple cutting the cake? We aren't having cake (we're having donuts, the only cake we like is funfetti) and therefore not cutting a cake. My brother, of all people, was outraged that we aren't cutting a cake. In all honest I just saw it as one more...

My brother, of all people, was outraged that we aren't cutting a cake. In all honest I just saw it as one more thing to take up precious partying time. Now I'm second guessing it. Am I going to regret not taking the traditional route on this one?

Wedding cake is one of my favorite things at a wedding. :-(

We aren't doing one. We are having a dessert bar instead of a cake. We did get cupcakes as favors which will be pre-boxed except for two. Those will go on our centerpiece as the bride's and groom's cupcakes. Originally we were going to do a cupcake cutting, but we decided it really didn't matter to us. We will still probably eat those cupcakes, but won't turn it into anything official. A cake cutting is a nice photo op, but my FH hates taking photos. So that was another reason we decided not to do one. We will both have taken plenty of other photos by that time that matter to us more.

I have been to a wedding where that had donuts though and did the traditional cake cutting. The bride also surprised the groom with a grooms cake at that time.
