How far is too far of a drive for wedding?

NinjaBride, on June 14, 2017 at 8:17 PM Posted in Planning 2 74

In your opinion how far are you willing to drive for a wedding? We are looking at a venue that is approximately 45min-1 hour drive for most of the guests. The reason we like it so much instead of somewhere closer is because it is an aviation museum and my fiancé has always had a love for anything to do with airplanes including his career. I personally have driven much further for weddings without much thought, just wondering your thoughts. Thanks!

Depends on my relationship with the couple. I don't think 45 min-1 hour is unreasonable.

I'm personally from a high traffic area and wouldn't think twice about driving 1 hour to an event. Maybe this is a know your crowd situation, but I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I would do it. Mine was about 45 min, very small, close friends/family, though.

It depends on what they are used to. If you live in a big city and deal with traffic every day, an hour is pretty much normal. It's not getting to the wedding that is a problem. It's getting home. It means one person won't be able to drink to be a designated driver, because generally taxis and Uber are not available or way too expensive so far out.

Mine is an hour from 80% of the guests, most will be staying in a hotel near by.

45min - 1 hour is absolutely acceptable. I live in LA so it's a little different... it could easily take me 1 hour to drive 12 miles to the beach and find parking. But I also come from a small town where the closest mall was 45 minutes away, so I don't think 45-60 is a big deal.

Depends on the relationship. For my cousin/friend/sibling, I would travel further.

For my great grandmothers sisters daughters son...no

All of our guests were 45 mins to two hours. Everyone made it that we were expecting.

I just went to a wedding last weekend that was a two hour drive. We just got a hotel and came home the next day. I wouldn't think anything of even an hour drive. That's a typical commute here.

In my city, a 45 minute drove keeps you in city limits. That being said, I do not think that 45-60 minutes one way would keep people from coming to your wedding.

I drive an hour to and from work each day. An hour is nothing to me. But I'm in Chicago.
