How far is too far of a drive for wedding?

In your opinion how far are you willing to drive for a wedding? We are looking at a venue that is approximately 45min-1 hour drive for most of the guests. The reason we like it so much instead of somewhere closer is because it is an aviation museum and my fiancé has always had a love for anything to do with airplanes including his career. I personally have driven much further for weddings without much thought, just wondering your thoughts. Thanks!

I've never been to a wedding that was only an hour away. I've always gone on a flight or driven to LA at minimum. So I think an hour is incredibly reasonable.

I don't think it's unreasonable but if all your guests live an hour away in the same area I personally would try to do it near there

Driving 13 hours to my nephews wedding in September! Locally I would easily drive 1-1 1/2 hours.

A lot of our local guests are about that far away, with no known issues. It's close to our place and they come here for parties with no problem.

Personally, 1.5 hours would be my cut off for a "local" wedding.

To give reference it's west of Cleveland driving to Akron area! I appreciate the feedback just making sure I wasn't being unreasonable!

Most of the people coming to my wedding are out of town and will be traveling 3-4 hours with zero complaint, so I think that one hour isn't bad at all.

To me there's no such thing as too far. As long as I have ample notice to book hotel for the weekend and take time off work. Most weddings I've been to were at least an hour. I drove to LA from San Francisco for my cousins wedding. That's about 6 hours. I've flown to a few weddings as well. Our wedding is 3+ hours for everyone and they all just made plans to stay in a hotel Saturday night.

Will there be hotel accommodations? Mine is a 1.5-2 hour drive for most, but there will be a hotel block

I plan on blocking off rooms if we end up going with this venue, yes!

1 hour is absolutely perfect! Our venue is about 2-3 hours out from half of our guest including a ferry ride and a 8 hour flight for the other half, so either way its a destination wedding for most!

An hour isn't bad. I drove 3 hours for a friend's wedding a few years ago. It just depends on your relationship with the couple I suppose.

We may or may not have picked a destination city based on 1) how easy it is for US to get to (we can easily fly or drive), and 2) that it is just far enough so people won't crash it (the closest guests will be about a 3 hour drive)

I drive 45 minutes each way to & from work on a daily basis. An hour for a wedding is totally doable!!

All of our guests are driving 1.5-2.5 hours. It's a mini destination wedding in a small resort in the white mountains of NH. Everyone is staying the night, many 2 nights.

Honestly? Don't worry too much about it. Get married where you want to get married (keeping some VIPs in mind). No one HAS to come!

That's not bad. I might even get a room so I don't have to drive home after a late njght.

Mine is 2 hours away, I can't imagine anyone wouldn't stay in a hotel. I went to a wedding 45 mins away last weekend and we stayed the night.

I live in northern Virginia where there is a ton of traffic. Lots of our guests drive an hour to and from work so that is nothing for them. Definitely depends on your location.

We are driving (according to google) 47 minutes to a wedding this Friday and that doesn't seem like much to me, but we also live in the country and its at least 20-30 minutes to anything really good anyway lol.

Just make sure there's a hotel nearby if possible so guests can enjoy themselves and stay the night somewhere without having to worry about a long drive home. They can choose whether to pay for the hotel or drive home, but you've done your part if you recommend accommodations. I have driven and flown all over for weddings, but I get a hotel close by (if it's further away than I'd want to take transit or uber) so we can drink without worrying about driving home.
